i dont think we are too far away from the footbridge over the torrens final design being released as the government said last month that it was almost ready and would probaly be released by the middle of may,so im thinking any day now,be interesting to see which option they ended up with, the one between the shells or more to the west closer to the riverbank precinct.

Work on River Torrens pedestrian bridge to Adelaide Oval to start mid-year
by: Emma Altschwager - Messenger Community News

CONSTRUCTION of a pedestrian bridge over the River Torrens is expected to start mid-year.

The State Government committed $22.5 million for the bridge in its 2012/13 State Budget today.

The bridge will connect the Riverbank precinct and the redeveloped Adelaide Oval.

The total bridge cost is expected to be $40 million.

The State Government also reiterated its promise to deliver the new Southern Stand at Adelaide Oval by the 2013 Ashes Test.

From the weekend financial review.

No mention of Adelaide but still a worthwhile read. Fingers crossed we navigate successfully sans-IDC. Will cost heaps more than a few years of of IDC savings if the govt f-up.

Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

Great read, Wayno. Thanks for posting.

Adds to my nerves about the axing of IDC, but Horton still has 6 more months in the job so hopefully he'll be able help ensure the riverfront moves in the right direction.
I think, therefore I tram

For that amount of money surely the design would have to look half decent.

Anyway. one of the most important things which I think will enhance the look of the area is the relocation of these ugly, oversized gum trees. They seriously do no good in removing the 'country' town stigma from our city, especially in such a prominent, postcard position.

I hate that they destroy any illusion of scale; they are almost towering over the festival centre and block it from the river view.

You would think such a high profile redevelopment would include strict and well thought out landscaping to ensure that the area looks its best when complete. Could you imagine some oversized gums on Crown Promenade or anywhere along Southbank?!

I would like to see the trees removed, with the lighting of the Festival Centre enhanced in different colours. It would like fantastic.

Would also like to see the aboriginal artwork replaced with black glass.
