you see them as ugly because you desire a European style gardens (unsustainable in Adelaide), heaps of people are like that because we have been brought up to envy Europe. (i.e what the "ideal" looks like)
it's cultural cringe at it's worst.
seriously, it is ok that Australia has floura and fauna that is different than the rest of the world and its also ok to present that flora to the world rather than just coping somewhere else.

really, look at Melbourne and Sydney (and Brisbane) they all could be picked up and transferred anywhere in the world
Perth, couldn't - it is uniquely Australian which SA is as well - until we let people start ripping up gum trees because they are too big and make our skyline look small
