funny how the expected completion is march 2014, right in time for the 2014 state election, surely that's a coincidence

No coincidence at all. That's how politics works. It's all part of their re-election strategy. "Vote for us, because this new stadium is proof that we're investing in our state's sporting infrastructure and revitalising the city!" Even though we're $9.5 billion in debt and rising and have our priorities completely wrong...

I'm pretty sure that Rob Lucas has been banging on about how the Western Grandstand needs to "already be upgraded" because it wasn't "done properly". etc

But I think this mainly can be attributed to needing media facilities for Footy and wet weather proofing the back of the stand. These features which weren't included due to the government initially sticking with AAMI.

I remember reading something about needing to add commentary boxes to the new stand for AFL. Could have my wires crossed though.

Same floor as the Members' Bar, on the other Northern end of the stand.

I guess they can start fairly soon then. This weekend is the one dayers, so thats the last of the big games and theres no need to wait until the Sheffield Shield finishes. I do recall on the news that the redbacks may have won a home final with the domestic 50 over comp though

The final game will be March 6, possibly March 8 (if a 3rd ODI final is required).
