Couple of pics from over the fence today at 'The Gallery' site. Earthworks are starting from the north. They still have to demolish a little more of the red brick building at the far southern end too.

The apartment building site that baulderstone are work on has a pretty major concrete raft foundation taking shape, rather than relying so much on piles for stability and support. They used a similar style of foundation raft for the Horizon. It will be 2-3 meters deep with lots of foundation steelwork included and there will be a lot of concrete poured, starting in the next week or so by the look of it.

Is that why Morphett St is going to be blocked off... Thought that it was for the crane installation. Oh well won't be that far away.

There is a major concrete pour today, has been underway for a few hours with the road closed off to traffic. Will probably take most of the day with 150 or so loads of concrete to pump into the raft foundation. Bit hot but they started early.

They would have nearly been finished by the time you saw it this morning.

The pour started at 8pm last night and was scheduled to last 10 hours. The total pour was over 2300 cubic metres. A flow rate of approx 230 metres per hour. To put that into context, 1 tandem truck can hold about 6m, a twin steer can hold about 7.5m and semi's can take nearly 12m.

This pour was fed by 3 concrete plants and had 43 aggitators (inc 4 semi's) working around the clock. 3 concrete pumps with one on stand by worked through the night and from all reports, all went well. A full round of trucks took a total of approx 313m.

This is a really busy site. Since the concrete pour over the weekend a lot of steel reinforcing for the columns has already been installed, some of it well above ground level (ie from basement level). Lots of formwork getting ready so I would think the crane could go in this weekend.

Yeah I noticed this yesterday on the way home from work. Fair bit ot progress in just the last couple of days. Urban Construct seem to move quickly with all their projects. The Port Adelaide development is a perfect example. Looking forward to seeing this crane and the Conservatory crane go up soon. Hopefully Alititude will have a crane on site too in a few months so we get a couple together.

For those interested, this was the single largest concrete pour in SA since construction of the then State Bank Building. Total of 2485.3m.
