Not to sure on the exact details for this project yet. Still concept stage. It appear as though Station Road will still be accessible for cars but the footpath takes priority, like the vehicle entrances to Adelaide Uni in the 1st Stage. Makes a huge difference walking along a footpath and not having to walk down onto a road. It's all about pedestrian priority which has made the 1st Stage of the upgrade so successful, you actually want to walk there. Hopefully it will mean idiots who drive along Station Road and almost run over pedestrians in that area will have to slow down. I believe this 3rd Stage is only from King William Street to just west of the Station. Gawler Place to King William is waiting on the final decision re Government House I believe. That footpath is shocking, very easy to trip up along there. The North Terrace project is mighty slow, who knows when the whole thing will be finally complete, at least not until after 2010 I would guess.

Haha, that hole in the last picture has only been there now for about 3 months. I Believe the workers must have a limit on the number of pavers they can lay in 1 day. The current restriction appears to be 3 small pavers per day  Im quite perplexed why the state gvt and transport sa dont provide more funds and tell the ACC to "frggin hurry up". My bus from Payneham Rd goes down North Terrace and I travel to work by bus every day. Without fail in the arvo peak hour, there is a traffic jam from the Railway Stn to Frome St corner which is purely and simply the result of these construction works outside UNISA building, because 1 lane is closed, and the cars turning left from North Tce down Frome rd are delayed by pedestrians, which then delays a few hundred cars and buses who simply want to go straight. Ofcourse, the traffic lights couldnt be anymore 'unsyncked'. Now, projects that dont interfere with traffic flows can be done over a 2 year period, but projects that cause so much interference and traffic congestion should be fast-tracked and completed in the least possible time such as 3-4 months tops. Come on Adelaide! This one is really pathetic.
ps the end result is fantastic though :)

Yeah, and did you know that when works are completed there won't be any turning at anytime into Frome Road! The traffic island will be eliminated for the safety of pedestrians. You'll have to turn at the lights in future.

Cheers

Maybe there are a lot of services that have to be re-located.

I believe that limit was negotiated in the last EB agreement.

Just on the ACC. There are quite a few projects that the ACC are doing around the city in terms of streetscaping, ie North Terrace, Hindmarsh Sq playground, Grote St and a few others. This is good to see, but why dont the ACC attempt to do 1 project at a time over a couple of months instead of stuffing around doing 6 projects at once taking years. I see Grote St was a pedestrian mess for a few months because we all thought that a nice paved footpath was being put in. Oh no, it took all that time to put a bloody bitumen footpath in that could have taken them 3 days. ACC, if your struggling for funds, please, do one project at a time!

Believe me the ACC are not struggling for funds considering the amount they charge for council rates. I am appalled as you jk with the bitumen along Grote St. What a waste. Also I am still waiting for the Pulteney St upgrade to continue down to North Tce as the paving outside of HJs is both ugly and dangerous. Pooling when it rains, pavers that sit inches above others and years of neglect have made this part of the city one of the biggest eyesores in the country (in terms of cbds).

I think the reason why the ACC haven't started on upgrading that section of Pulteney St is because of the Rundle Convergence Development.

Of the topic, but the more I think about it. I would like to see the walls around Government House demolished and the grounds and maybe the house opened up to the public. It has the potential of becoming a great edition to the already fabulous North Terrace.

Plus it would improve the streetscape
