Are you for real?

People are allowed to make comparision by whatever means they want, whether it be extremist or conventional. My comparison was moreso of a joke than reality, although one can say that there are striking similarities.

So does that mean this thread's dead?

No, not at all. It's just such comparisons should not be made flippantly. Doing so only weakens your argument.

FWIW, I agree with much of what stumpjumper has put forward, and I also hold a dim view of Foley.

In a democracy we elect people to make decisions for us. It would be a huge waste of time and money, and cost investment and jobs if we had to have referendums about governemnt actions. Do the people who call for referendums ranging from the tram line extension, the name of the hospital, the Victoria Park grandstand realize that if this were the case, nothing would get done in SA. The state would become an expensive talk-fest. if you don't like the government vote for the other team.

But could I also mention, to those calling for referendums for everything. Do you realize that every person is different. You cannot please everyone. This is the reason for some of the uninspiring recent developments in Adelaide. Because we try and please everyone, we end up with half-baked ideas and uninspiring results.

The 'propaganda' of the state governemnt is nothing compared to the extreme propaganda coming from Canberra.

The methodology is the same. A gang of self-seekers and idealogues crowding behind the popular figurehead.

"Rann gets things done!" The ALP's slogan implies a certain ends jsutifies the means mentality.

There are many shared characteristics of Rann's govt and your average totalitarian regime (left or right variety).

One such is to make a decision, then to fudge some sort of public process to deliver the already desired result. We saw it with the imposition of the least popular choice for Park LAnds management after a six figure consultation process that damned the govt's final choice.

We're seeing it now with the completely uninformed Minister for Environment and Conservation, the same Minister who will not be interviewed on her portfolio because she knows jack sh-t about it Gail Gago deciding to bulldoze the buildings on Troubridge Island. (State Heritage, Register of National Estate, etc etc.)

Gail, former State Secretary of the powerful Australian Nurses Federation given a safe seat in Parliament, was awarded her Ministgerial salary and perks as a result of her being next in line for her faction to be given a Ministry. Interestingly, her ALP website entry doesn't mention 'state secretary' preferring to describe her as 'an active member' of the union, probably in an attempt to deflect comments that she is just another talentless union hack parachuted into a safe Legislative Council seat courtesy the ALP's faction system.
So because the state government isn't a heritage fanatic, it is now comparable to genocidal dictatorships like those of Stalin and Hitler. :wank:

On 26th june Makris lodged a varied application for a LED screen on city cross. It says the size of the screen has been amended. I do not know if it is bigger or smaller then first planned but it seems like it will be going ahead nevertheless which is great.

Will be similar to these:
