This is the same mob who has left a prime piece of land in North Adelaide empty for 40 years

What sounds like an Onion article, ACC has green lighted a “drivers month” to encourage people to drive into the city — instead of every other city that is investing in public and active transport. Door prizes for parking, allowing cars to use bus lanes, and happy-go-lucky marketing campaigns. What a backwards, idiotic, direction this council is going.

Is that the absolute best idea they can drum up to attract people back to the city. Like seriously, what the fuck is this the 1950s.

The city council is the root of Adelaide's problems.

Maybe the ACC can attract people to the city by building a non-shithouse swimming centre

Someone rightfully commented that the city needs more people, not more cars. This includes people who live there, not just commute there. The council would be better off giving concessions and marketing for more long-term citizens to live in the city rather than just international students.

This is absolutely disgusting. Adelaide is already car-friendly and you can drive into the CBD, they don't need more incentives.

A pity we don't have recall elections in this country. This is the perfect case for the whole council to be disbanded. Bring in fresh blood not these old geezers who just veto everything.

North Adelaide empty block, aquatic centre, pit building in Vic Park, gag orders, over zealous parking inspectors, the list goes on

European-style bike path, trees, lighting and links to the parklands in new ‘vision’ to revive Hutt St

Adelaide’s embattled Hutt Street would be revamped with a “European-style” bike path, improved lighting and art features in a move aimed at unlocking millions of dollars in private investment.

As Adelaide City Council plans to embark on a master planning process to redesign struggling CBD retail strips, local traders and Deputy Lord Mayor Alex Hyde have released a “vision statement” of its possible new-look.

Mr Hyde said the precinct had been overlooked for much-needed investment and had slipped behind other inner city precincts which had upgraded their appeal.

Key components of the Hutt Street vision include the retention of all trees and parking spaces while adding better lighting and art as well as replenishing garden beds.

The plan would also add a bike path through the centre of Hutt Street to encourage families and avoid costly changes to kerbs and stormwater services.

Hutt Street Traders Association chairman Colette Slight said better public spaces would boost the appeal and activity of businesses.

“It would send a clear message to other businesses we are a premiere boulevard and they should set up shop here too,” she said.

The council has set aside $232,000 for master planning in Hutt, O’Connell and Melbourne streets. It is unclear when it will be complete..

Mr Hyde said a “proper investment” was needed from council and the State Government to deliver Hutt Street’s potential.

“Businesses want to stay here, residents want to live here and property owners want to reinvest here, but we need to give them a good reason,” Mr Hyde said.

Mr Hyde said a “tasteful streetscape” upgrade would build confidence and jobs.

“By retaining traffic lanes and all parking bays we will not alienate the majority of people who drive … we can make the precinct welcoming for everyone,” he said.

That would be fantastic! Let's get our counterargument ready for Team Adelaide's inevitable 'but what about the cars????' statement.

Yep. Lets not forget that the DLM is in Team Adelaide and could probably be considered the unofficial head.

Also, and I expect the DLM would know this, a proposal like the one shown in the drawings would likely cost upwards of $20million, possibly (probably) more.

Here's one thing Melbourne are doing at this time.

If only the ACC had a similar vision.

If only the ACC had vision.

Rundle Mall Christmas decorations are going up at the moment. Of all the different incarnations of these displays have they stuck with the tackiest of the lot? Plastic Christmas trees, wooden cut outs of Christmas trees, a few fairy lights... It's pretty appalling when compared to elsewhere in Australia let alone the world.
