It's not awful. I don't love it, but I can live with this.

Would you also say that because everyone thought Globe Apartments were rubbish that it was therefore "interesting" and Adelaide "desparately needed it". What a load of rubbish.Waewick wrote: personally, the amount of people against it, gives me the impression that it may actually be a piece of interesting architecture that the city so desperately needs.

i dont hate it. i dont like it either, but it's in a relatively insignificant position and if it's built it will probably be forgotten about anyway.

I'm with Omi on this one, not hate for it, it's okay.Ben wrote:"You can't polish a turd".
But you need to find a new expression....

I dont like it one iota. And just for the record, if built would actually stand out in the area. Coglin Place is 43m tall for comparison.

Is THAT it!!!! What a shocker! The only continuity and complementary nature about is GARISH and will date faster than the speed of light. 'Le Grande' does not fit at all! Disappointed.

The usual response to something that isn't covered in glass from this forum.
They are massing renders, rather than "life like" textural renders. Wait until you see them then share judgement. Until then untangle your y-fronts from your ball bags and calm down. The fact that another investor is choosing Adelaide to open a hotel is something we should be appreciative of, given the current economic climate.

Pikey, glass curtain walls don't suit apartment blocks anyway. Most of us here know that. I guess you agree that the grand majority of those here welcome investors to our city. I also guess you agree that we want to see great design from these investors and not cheap throwbacks. Like using bricks for cladding in a highrise.Pikey wrote:The usual response to something that isn't covered in glass from this forum.

I agree with Pikey here, it is the quality of the renders that doesn't help this one. I think it will actually end up looking rather interesting.
According to the materials selection a majority of the building facade will be glass anyway.

I'm going to buck the trend and say that as an apartment building I don't actually mind it or the red brick. I think we need diversity in developments and this is adds a point of difference. And like the others have said, I will await on materials and a more realistic looking render before I completely pass judgement. Good to see we're still getting proposals in this economic climate (Olympic Dam shelving etc.)

I don't know why people are focusing on the brick cladding. It's only used on a small feature for a bit of contrast. The majority of the building is dark glass with green glass balconies.

How does this fit into the ACC's plans for Little India?

Don't think much is happening with that. One of the Indian shops in Market St. closed down recently. Think there are only two left there now. And one Indian restaurant in Gouger St. (The Village) has closed its doors as well. Maybe you should ask Mr. Yarwood; he stated before his election that he wanted to have a Little India in the area but since then I haven't heard anything more about it.Aidan wrote:How does this fit into the ACC's plans for Little India?
