With all our glass buildings our welcoming sign should say this....

Welcome to Adelaide, the transparent city

We still have too many prominent concrete brutalist structure on the skyline, so such a welcome is still a few years away.

The building to be demolished was actually used by the PMG (Post Master General) before Telstra was on the scene. Any updates for this site?

In PMG and Telecom times, it was known as Engineering Building, and housed the Franklin telephone exchange, the long line equipment and the manual trunk exchange. It was the PMG intention to demolish it, and build a similar building to the (bland) Waymouth Exchange building behind it, but advances in technology have made it redundant. I worked as a trainee in the Trunk Test Room (long line), many years ago, in PMG days.
Memories, but no great loss.

Considering the last two posts, am I right in thinking the phone exchange building will remain while the 5 level block to ber demolished will have the new 17 level block on it?

Thanks Crawf.

Will this building be on Franklin St next to the exchange? (I'm thinking of the Adelaide development map I'm constructing for this site)

Im confused, in that newspaper article on page one of the forum, they are talking about demolishing the Telstra Exchange & the white building, but the renders only show the white one gone and the exchange still there? Can anyone explain?

The white building is an old Telecom exchange, and it is being demolished. The high-rise brown one isn't being touched.
