Sadly probably never. Opinion polls have the ALP getting wiped out in next weekend's Election:)
As a Cancer survivor I would have welcomed this tertiary & medical research precinct in our city with open arms. the sweet artists renders of sharp looking buildings certainly didn't hurt.
Hasn't the money already been allocated? I thought it was given as part of signing up to Gonski, and not an election promise. Plus it wouldn't be a good look yanking money for a cancer research centre, no matter what party is in power.
I hope you're right, both from a personal health and looking out for Adelaide Point of view.
Big infrastructure investments are usually under-valued and & over-criticized while in the planning stage. It's much easier to envision the here and now costs and inconveniences, and far more difficult to imagine fully the eventual benefits.

Is it too early to jump the gun and change it from proposed to cancelled, due to the Abbott getting in? Hahaha.

In all seriousness, have we got any new info in this in the past week? I really, really, really don't want this proposal to end out scrapped, aswell. :(

Hewlett Packard expansion promises 430 Adelaide jobs

Computing company Hewlett Packard is promising to expand its Adelaide workforce by 430 jobs over the next four years in a deal with the South Australian Government and the University of South Australia.

HP will partner with the university to create an information technology honours course and build an innovation centre in North Terrace.

Some of the jobs are expected to move from interstate.

Nick Wilson of Hewlett Packard is full of praise for Adelaide.

"We've already got a good base here, we know the skill set here's pretty good and then the ability to get hold of a good set of graduates that hopefully we can mould a bit," he said.

The Government will give the university $5.5 million toward building the innovation centre at the former railyards.

From news.com:
Hansen Yuncken chosen to build $230 million medical facility for UniSA

This story was published: 18 hours ago September 09, 2014 12:30AM

COMMERCIAL builder Hansen Yuncken has been chosen to build the University of South Australia’s new $230 million medical research building on North Terrace in the CBD.

The university has partnered with SA Pathology to establish a new centre for cancer biology at the site, which will also incorporate the co-location of allied health clinics in physiotherapy, podiatry and other areas.

The Health Innovation building will include an interactive public science studio using equipment donated by the Investigator Science and Technology Centre which closed in 2006.

The project, located at the site of the North Terrace skate park, will add to the growing health and medical precinct in the northwest end of the CBD, including the New Royal Adelaide Hospital which Hansen Yuncken is delivering in a joint venture with Leighton Contractors.

“Health and education over the last few years have been two of our major sectors - obviously we’re very pleased to pick up the UniSA project - there’s a reasonable degree of synergy with it being an education project but also with a health bias as well,” Hansen Yuncken state manager Peter Salveson said.

“If you look at the two university projects the good thing is it’s not direct State Government money that’s coming in - we’re seeing investment from other areas.”

Construction of the new building is expected to commence in the middle of next year, with completion expected in time for the 2018 academic year.

It will closely follow construction of the University of Adelaide’s new $206 million Medical and Nursing School building which will be located on the adjacent site.

Technology giant Hewlett Packard will relocate its new Innovation and Collaboration Centre into UniSA’s new building once completed, with the facility also to accommodate exhibition spaces, studios, a science cafe and science shop.

Hansen Yuncken project development manager Kevin Zammit said the project team had already started developing a program of works.

“The main consultants were appointed in February and March - we were the last major consultant to be appointed,” he said.

“We’re now part of the design team, providing program, constructability, buildability and cost management advice to the university and consultant team.”

“We’re integrating into the team and trying to catch up to where they are and we’re trying to develop our program.”

Research into various types of cancer will be conducted at UniSA’s new facility, as well as the research of blood-related cancers such as leukaemia and lymphoma.

It is expected the new centre will create increased opportunities for the commercialisation of the research that is undertaken.

Hang on .... so is the Uni SA building now worth $230M, not $80M? That's a pretty big difference ...

I dont remember the mention of new podiatry and physio clinics previously, although they wouldnt quite account for the extra $150 million! Great to hear though.

Some extra information from the Hansen Yuncken website:
Health Innovation Building (HIB), SA

Located in the Adelaide’s new Health & Biomedical Precinct on North Terrace, this project involves delivery of a new iconic 14 level building which will accommodate:
•The Centre for Cancer Biology (CCB): work area accommodation, specialist research facilities and support spaces, and an animal house facility for the Centre,
•Innovation Health Clinics: specialist clinical spaces, consulting spaces and simulation facilities for Health Sciences, and
•A major science public outreach initiative Science | Creativity | Education Studio (SciCEd) gallery: galleries, studios, retail outlet and café.

The project also involves additional space for allied commercial tenants, and a significant landscaped Urban Park that connects the HIB with the University of Adelaide’s proposed new Integrated Clinical School Building.
It looks like this is now 14 levels.

A sign has gone up on the railing of the skate park stating that it will close on March 1st.

And yet there is no proposal for a new city skate park nor any information their website. Big mistake.

Victoria Square is about to become the unofficial City Sk8 Park.

It and North Tce in front of the Museum are already regularly used by skaters.

The Great Medical Wall :?

Interesting design, going to make a huge visual impact (height wise) but I'm lil worried these buildings are going to block the riverbank from North Terrace, similar to ASER.

To put things into perspective, the Oaks Embassy is 60m and the new Adel Uni is 62m.
