I find the Grenfell Centre to be an attractive building and I wish it was twice the height, at 103m it is the same height and similar design as the BNZ Centre in Wellington NZ.Phantom wrote:Not trying to go off topic, but do you guys find the black stump to be an attractive building?

Fingers crossed for an unlikely 30-40m height increase

Tend to agree. When you consider the building was built in the early/mid 70s, it has held up much better than a building like Telstra House, which looks far more dated despite being built over a decade later.metro wrote:Fingers crossed for an unlikely 30-40m height increase

I've always liked it. Reminds me of something Mies might have done... just... you know about half the size.Phantom wrote:...Not trying to go off topic, but do you guys find the black stump to be an attractive building?

This one is going ahead. They are building a showroom on site for the apartment component to be opened in July.

This doesn't necessarily mean it's going ahead, it still needs to sell the required amount of apartments. That said, they can market it as Adelaide's tallest residential development (at this point), which is good selling point for them. I hope this one goes up!Ben wrote:This one is going ahead. Does the entrance to the TAFE next door still have an infestation of goths studying IT smashing ciggies? Might want to incentivise them to the other side of the campus with free Slipknot T-Shirts and skull bongs if the developers want to make a good impression in that display suite.

Good signs, this section of currie st is crying out for a significant development such as this. Hopefully with the majority of this being a hotel, there isnt as much reliance on the apartment presales before we see some action!

None of the things you mentioned are in anymore.

Surely the contract between Sofitel and Palumbo must have an agreed finish date.Blimp wrote:Good signs, this section of currie st is crying out for a significant development such as this. I recall a finishing date being posted in this thread somewhere. Im sure sofitel wont tolerate waiting around for apartment presales, they'll want it done on their terms - which is good for the likeliness of this project going ahead. The same would apply for that new tallest proposal on Pirie st. I'd imagine!ghs wrote:Surely the contract between Sofitel and Palumbo must have an agreed finish date.Blimp wrote:Good signs, this section of currie st is crying out for a significant development such as this. Like many projects, I won't believe it's going ahead until I see a crane installed. A lot can happen in between.
[COM] Re: Currie/Rosina St | 110m | 32lvl | Sofitel
Accor Hotels have already signed up to occupy majority of this building. It's going ahead.
Currie Street desperately needs this. I hope it spurs further high rise development along the street.

1 less carpark visable from the street which is great.
some build up along Currie is another plus, will have an impact from Light Sqaure too.
can't wait!

Been waiting with baited breath - not really believing anything would happen - very impressed with the design and having a tenant - almost guarantees a start will occur - pity it wasn't facing Vic Sq. (Need an iconic building there). \
