Wow. That’s horrific. Unfortunately precedent shows everything get approved with minor changes. Hopefully this is different.

For me, it's too hard to tell. I won't automatically assume that a lack of glass means ugly, as I often prefer quality masonry. It also appears that there's a plissé/fluted detail to the façade, which could be quite nice. However, the fact that it's student accomodation doesn't make me confident that it will be. Obviously, the universities are right there, but I can't understand why you would want to waste a development site with the absolute best views and orientation available in the city on student accomodation. You could charge a premium here!

Can anyone provide the application document? I can't find it on the SCAP register.

Besides trying to fulfill an incredibly restricted budget, the only other thing I can think of is that they were trying to go for the faux sandstone look to compliment the heritage?

Big fail on that one and regardless of the intent it looks shit. The nicest thing I have to say about it is that I disagree it is bad as Dwell. We can only hope that SCAP grow a pair because at over 100 metres and unlikely to ever be blocked out that hideous beast is going to be a permanent feature of the northern skyline.

In a way it reminds me of Velasca Tower in Milan

Yes, because they are both fugly

You really need to be standing on a rooftop somewhere to fully appreciate its ugliness, whereas this one you can take in from the street. Now that's service!

I wouldn't compare the Torre Velasca seen here...

...as it was built in the 1950s. Different times.

Come the fuck on, really? It looks like a cheese stick. This kind of shit is proof that our planning commission are too lax on the quality of developments. This kind of stuff wouldn't get up elsewhere in Australia.

Instead of climate change rallies, thousands of people should be swarming the streets of Adelaide to protest against this hideous tower ever seeing the light of day.

Yeah - this building is definitely an existential threat to humanity!

It reminds me of something you'd find in a suburb of Jo'burg in South Africa.
