I agree. To my untrained eye, the interior looks largely unchanged...

I thought the bulk of the work was maintainance and to allow more complex shows to take place, so a lot of behind the scenes area would have changed.

The carpet needs to die.
Other than that it looks fine. Nothing innovative but nice. My only concern is the exterior of the building themselves will still look so dated when all is done. What could be a great revamp could still turn out to look messy due to the dated Festival Centre.

Yes, the majority of the effort has been on repairs and bringing facilities up to date.

The Festival Centre is beautifully formed, it’s just let down by materials. If we ever have government as inclined to invest in the arts as the sports, hopefully one day we’ll see the centre fully face lifted.

Also... am I the only one who hates the way posters are slapped on the roofline like that? You couldn’t imagine them doing that to the Opera House. It cheapens the building.

Absolutely. I’ve always loathed posters, art, whatever being stuck on the side of the building.

That looks really good to me. The foyer upgrade was always meant to be faithful to the original building, and it's succeeded in that. The fluted concrete walls look great, and the carpet strikes the right balance between era-correct and contemporary (and the pattern echos the octagons that form the basis of the architecture).

I agree about the advertising. The worst is the vinyl graphics they put up in the window of the Dunstan Playhouse. They should have a seperate frame in front with fabric banners.

Glad they kept the carpet. I was contacting them to ask if it was being ripped up as I wanted to use a section in my lounge room as a rug. That is how much I love that retro carpet. Very happy to see also that they haven't tried to modernise the interior too much by removing the 1970's elements like the stair railings etc. To me, it should be kept in much the same styling throughout. Retro is very much still fashionable.

I love that red carpet. Hope they never get rid of it.

Agree the carpet is fantastic, comes with the time of the design, very unique and should stay that way.

Ended up playing tour guide to two older American couples. Got to explain what was going on along the southern bank of the Torrens, the story behind Adelaide Oval and what it's done for Adelaide and SA.

Is this where the underpass will be?

Can anyone confirm whether there is new permanent feature lighting for the AFC? I drove past on Saturday night and caught a quick glimpse of what looked like some really nice lighting/projections along the roof lines. Haven't been able to find a pic but here is a mockup of what (I'm pretty sure) it looked like:

I saw them installing a laser projection thing pointed that way under the footbridge while I was back home earlier this month.
From memory, I think I spotted something on the Adelaide Festival Centre page about it, too?

That lighting has been in place since mid December, and looks to be a permanent feature. I was still in use on Australia day and really brightens the whole precinct.
