The Hampshire hotel has re-opened, it's been renovated inside.

Just noticed a little nod to the past - they seem to have reinstated a curved sign on top of the parapet like the original Royal Admiral had:

That wasn't there a few weeks ago:

What "theme" is the Hampy now? From memory in its last incarnation was a gay pub... which Adelaide has been lacking.

Assuming the basement of 89 King William St violated a number of safety codes and disability standards, owing to narrow stairs and the lift's basement access disabled.
Hence Jack Ruby only lasting for three and a half years.
Imagine if a fire was to spread, hundreds of people will be seriously burned to death!

As usual, the Golden Rule is if you can't bring anything old up to today's standards regardless of age, get rid of it.
For starters, my avatar is the well-known Adelaide Aquatic Centre insignia from 1989.

Is it possible to be burned to death without it being serious?

For example, anyone heard of the Cocoanut Grove club fire of the 1940s in Boston, Massachusetts?
Numerous doors were locked to prevent restaurant bill evaders from running out and though the building did have windows as it was formerly a garage, all were boarded up to keep every room dark.
This prompted a mass change in building design codes.

The former PJ O'Briens on West Tce is becoming B'Churrasco; a Brazilian style steakhouse.
It'll be the second one in Australia (the first opened in Melbourne not long ago)

In addition, The Office On Pirie states 'Temporarily Closed', presumably due to either landlord in possession, liquor licensing issues or changes to regulations.
South Australia's QuizzaMe State Manager wrote on Facebook that The Office is closed for good.
"For Lease" signs now up.

Adelaide’s Getting A New Miami Themed Rooftop Bar!

BY MATT MCKENZIE ON MARCH 21, 2018

There’s nothing quite as evocative of the American Dream as the effortlessly cool 50’s style Miami bars. Adelaide’s soon getting its own slice of ice-cool Americana in Two Suns, a chic rooftop bar set to open up at 41 Currie St. Pinnacle PM, the masterminds behind the downstairs Lady Burra Brewhouse, are fronting the construction of this Floridian-style drinkery, and the early concepts they’ve released look AMAZING:

Image

Think pastel umbrellas, palm trees, and fruity rum cocktails – this will be the destination for Adelaideans looking to kick back on a lounger, soak up some rays and take some summery Instas with their mates with views over the Riverbank to the north and the beach to the west. There’s nothing to fear from the wintry weather either, as Two suns will have a cover over the terrace areas during the middle of the year.

These vibes. *raised hands emoji*

The Miami-style bar will also feature private dining areas for your functions, where you can partake of the sharing-style plates of wood-fired pizzas and antipasto platters.

For those looking to cut loose, we hear they’ll have live music and DJ’s in the evenings, so you can wear some holes into the soles of your boat shoes.

I am more confident about this one than Garage or Atlantis, if they manage it as well as Lady Burra it could be a winner.

Johnny Rockets absolutely nailed the experience in every way, complete with well trained staff who diligently played the role and put on shows to the jukeboxes, the works. Did it even last a year?

This tacky AF concept I give a whole 3 months.

LOL views over the Riverbank? Sure, if by Riverbank they mean the eastern facade of the casino, Urbanest and so on..
And there's barely a view westerly to the coast..and what there is, a lot of that will be blocked by the hotel/apartments that will go up just down the road..westerly..
