Interesting. Would give Bohem some company and would technically fill Whitmore square in a little bit more, so hopefully the design is okay. Judging by street view and that link, the site is a warehouse and an open air carpark. If so, it would be good to see those go, particularly the ugly warehouse.

Slightly off-topic, but in that area, wasn't there going to be some development involving Hotel Wright Street that shut down a few months ago? Were they going to demolish all or part of that building? Can someone jog my memory please?

It was rumored but there has been no application as yet. it is believed Chinese developers have bought the site though.

18 levels and 34 apartments would suggest 2 apartments per floor. Narrow allotment. About 7 metres wide? Will be a concrete wall job no question.

You're probably right, and the blank wall will likely face Whitmore Square, which isn't ideal. The eastern wall could also possibly be blank as well, leaving us with a 115 KWS/379KWS/Alto Apartments situation. We'll have to wait and see.

I notice that the next-door cottage and land behind it up to Wright Court is also on the market. I wonder why they wouldn't purchase both sites and perhaps do something (presumably) more adventurous architecturally, and maybe use the land behind that leads to Wright Court as access for underground parking or something like that. Ah well, the developers know more than I do.

I just assumed they had purchased the cottage? I can't see that it is heritage listed.

Having spent quite a lot of time at The Wright Street Hotel in the 5 years up until it's closing, I have some anecdotal evidence on this site.

Yes, a Chinese consortium has bought the site, and does have plans to build a high rise of some sort. This site does include the corner pub, bar area
AND the vacant block next door. And as has been widely reported, the facade of the original building is heritage listed and must be incorporated into
any future development. Kinda a shame, as there are so many blocks more suited for development in this area, and arguably, what was once the
trendsetter in the Adelaide CBD pub scene has had to close.

It looks pretty good for what they can do with the site. They've at least attempted to vary the façade when most developers just do an upright rectangle.

Yes, and Aria across from Australia Post. I would think if you are proposing something that looks pretty bland (out of necessity to some extent, but still) you would think it's in your interest to contextualise it with the other largeish buildings already existing or largely built around it. It just sticks out like a (somewhat unattractive) sore thumb right now in that render.

Absolute rubbish

However with Bohem closeby there is a reasonable prospect of the area filling out in to a decent canyon to cover those walls. The street facade however would live on. Saving grace is it is so narrow and a neighbouring tower would steal the focus easily.

This is such a typically modern Adelaide building. Decent front with blank concrete side walls.

Are they even trying with this design?
If I was on the DAP, I'd knock it back for a lack of design effort and inspiration.
