That rendering looks good, but in a "can't actually tell what materials it is portraying" way. Optimistic but not convinced at this point.

This building screams 'Empire' that was built recently in Melbourne. For the uninitiated, Empire looked fantastic in renders, an abomination in construction (most poignantly labeled on SSC as an 'upmarket remand centre'), then kinda not half bad on completion. The problem, which we get a lot of in Adelaide, is the silky smooth material finish in the render was exposed unpainted concrete in reality, although it looked better with a scrub down. Also because the vertical fins break up the facade to distract the eye from the non seamless nature of the concrete finish.

It almost looks like Alucobond rather than concrete panelling, but then again renders can be very deceiving. It almost looks like the glass of the facade continues in single vertical spans which will greatly accentuate the feeling of height, should look pretty cool at night.

Fundamentally, on the face of these renders, I like it. It gives a great deal of height to a low rise area, and the street activation looks great. When viewed from the south, this and Realm will have an almost twin tower look.

Hopefully the full public DA will have materials listed.

Hmm, having looked it up I can see that comparison. If it ended up having the final quality of that building it would be an alright addition.

Can't help but think what happens to these buildings when the student boom dies down

Render looks alright, but it's student accommodation, so it'll turn out cheap and nasty like the rest.

So is the idea that those vertical lines are glass windows between the metallic cladding? I'm surprised that they didn't make them look 'glassier' in the render as it looks like a metal pencil-box resting on it's end from these! If they are glass, I'm not sure why they didn't use the same finish as the little 'window pod' things dotted up the sides in these renders.

Certainly going to make an impact in any case, at that height.

Hard to say based on the render as others have said the finishes will make or break it. I like it, but it does look very out of place, not just height but design. I think this is good though to challenge a fairly conservative skyline.

I don't mind it, would certainly add some much needed variety to our skyline.

I agree about variety but we’ve seen far too many renders deceive us on the final outcome.

With the right finishes it could be quite the looker. I love the height and colour is certainly a change.

I like this way more than I dislike it. It's light years ahead of stuff like Atira and Dwell. It's got that modern sleek factor we've been desperately craving!

Therefore... there's no time to waste. *grabs shovel and goes to Twin St*

Where did you find the renders arki? Is there any other information?

IMO it's a 50/50 based on these images. Could be nice, could be bad reimagining of Wakefield House.

I concur with others that the materials will make our break this development, but for what it's worth, the ground level of this looks great!

First response - love it. Breaking through the perpetual 18 floor ceiling. Looks phenomenally tall. Love the tall slim look. Have to wait and see if it is as good as it looks. Definitely a skyscraper.
