Yes it was a pity Apollo Square was never built in 1970 .It would have been Adelaide's first 40 story office building (taller then any of the current proposed tall buildings). it was to be located at 60 king William st where that fake old building is at the entrance to city cross.

Renders? Never heard of this one, I know of the Japanese department store touted for the Mall with the star observation tower but not this one...

I actually had a rendering of this building in a book released by the architectural firm. I have no idea where it ended up as I was leaving for overseas in 1973. I cannot remember the architects but I'm sure they were Adelaide based.

I guess a good place to find more info would be the State Library if anyone has the time.

Cheers

For lease signs up for the ground floor tenancy - assuming it’s not going up anytime soon

Yep, 60's and 70's has a lot to answer for.

Was the building on the left I think?
Win some lose some in this pic. Whatever is to the right of the Edmund Wright building gave way to the CML building.

It's a pretty sad reflection on the state government and our economy when a building which was proposed 50 years ago would be taller than all of our current buildings.

At least we are in good company with other "backwaters". The unbuilt Grollo Tower in Melbourne is taller than any of their current or proposed tall buildings, and likewise the Brisbane Central project is taller than anything current or proposed.
