Looks like this may only be 15 levels now.
Variation to Development Authorisation 020/A004/19- Reduction in building height, amendments to the building facade, lift core and internal floor plan, deletion of level 15/16 sky lounge terrace and open pergola structure on level 15.

It sounds like they have gotten rid of pretty much the only redeeming feature- too bad they didn't reduce it by another 50 metres.

Amendments to façade accompanying the other changes is concerning. Because deleting the roof top amenities/levels sounds like dumbing down something's that's already pretty stupid:

I can't imagine the government architect will be ok with any amenity loss for residents, and I'm pretty sure roof top gardens (or some open space) are required guidelines for student accomodation. The ground level beer garden-esque area won't suffice on its own.

These poor 3D renders of these student accomodation give me no hope. I'd honestly rather no development than most of them. They are such trash and poorly impact on our city.

Why have all the good propposals dried up in the last year? The Libral party?

Yes it is sad but it has nothing to do with the Liberal Party.

Cheers

Contrary to popular opinion this does not look that bad in reality. Structure is at level 2 and core tower at level 5.
The outcome all depends on the quality of the finish. Click on pictures for bigger.

You can notice the latticework façade effect in those photos — it’ll be interesting to see how the light falls on it.

A view of the rear windows. these are single pane windows with ventilation slits above. they are reasonably reflective and show images of the building in the rear lane. The windows and precast panels look much better in real life than the images on line so there is hope for this building yet. Some of you were rather quick to write off this project. Not usually a fan of the olive/bronze window framing, but given the predominance of black/grey/white in the surrounding area, this colour choice could end up being a welcome relief. As with the fact that it's not simply smooth precast...

I never thought this building was abominable, just not particularly likeable and uninspired. I just hope that the recently lodged amendment doesn't make it less so. Is there any word on whether that was approved?

The glazing on U2 looks promising at least.
