I agree with a third geometric shell, but I can't understand the reasoning or appeal with building on Elder Park (well kept, centrally located OPEN SPACE)? When you have a a blank canvas about on the southern side of the centre (at this stage destined to be merely cafes and restaurants). Elder Park is very useful in its current form, why change that? Whereas what's to say that a new public plaza is going to be a success?
That's not to say don't have cafes and restaurants or even a plaza, but just be practical in sizing up what's needed vs what's not.
Excuse the shitness of my diagram below but this is what I've always seen for this area... Perhaps without the plaza even. But a concert hall, with an alleyway of cafes, bars and restaurants which separates the centre from Parliament House, a larger foyer/more function or performance spaces on the front. And I've included the office building even though I'm against that part of the plaza proposal just to show that it could still be achieved. Obviously it's not to scale but you get an idea of how it could work.
I completely disagree. This will ruin the view of the Festival Theatre from King William St and close off all open space for the plaza. Dreadful location.
Agreed. Think that area would be too crowded with a concert hall in there, but if that location had to be used I would have those concert hall and plaza locations swapped around.

So let me get this straight, building a concert hall on the site of the plaza, right next-door to the existing performing arts centre and essentially extending this centre would be a 'dreadful location and would leave the area too crowded, but an office tower, an encroaching casino expansion? Yeah, no worries mate throw it in there!
How about this, we forget the office tower, we forget the plaza an amenities and simply build a concert hall that we know will get used. As opposed to building more offices that our city doesn't actually need, more hospitality spaces that we don't really need because we have nearby Bank Street, Leigh Street, and even the Casino, and artificial open space that we don't need because we have the nearby Elder Park and greenbelt along the Torrens. I find it ironic that people draw a line at 'crowding' and building up this area when it's actually something that will prove beneficial to the area and be in keeping with what's already there.

The part that people have disagreed with you on is the positioning you indicated in your diagram — right in front of the main Festival Theatre. Although in either location, you might have issues with having the carpark underneath a concert hall unless you $$$ so it doesn't impact on acoustics.

Yeah, in hindsight I realise this. The positioning I chose was merely to keep some kind of a plaza there because to remove it entirely would likely have turned heads here. RE: the carpark, you might have to lose the top level of parking or reconfigure some of it but I still think this could be achieve by simply building on top of it. A concert hall, unlike a a standard theatre venue doesn't require a orchestra pit, or amass of backstage area/wings etc. It really just needs to be a stage with tired seating. It's the acoustics that are vital.

...two sites that have been discussed, using Lord Mayor Sandy Verschoor's Casa da Música hall in Porto, Portugal as an example of size.
Featuring a 1300-seat auditorium suffused with daylight, Casa da Música is a modern polygon-shaped building 9 floors high. Built in 2006 to house the Porto National Orchestra, the Baroque Orchestra and the Remix Ensemble, it is the only concert hall in the world with two walls made entirely of glass.
- The Festival Centre site would have the hall replace The Star Kitchen & Bar, but sit very close to the Festival Theatre.
- The 'Le Cornu' (French for 'The Horn') site would fit in within the boundary but at 9 floors, old money would have a fit. Extending the free city tram here would sufficiently link the Festival Centre and The Horn hall.

Agreed, frames Elder Park well and provides vistas to river. Of course, any actual building in that place will be appropriately designed and oriented. I would imagine being part of the broader AFC means it wouldn't need to be quite so large as this standalone facility.

Usually, I was on the upper levels and sometimes, I got bored and sleepy!

A better location for a concert hall then the festival plaza area would be the torrens parade ground.
Demolish it all, build the concert hall and properly landscape and pave the surrounding area.

NO, hands off the Torrens Parade Ground, its an important site thats used on Anzac Day etc.

Honestly, Rev, do you have any sympathy towards this state's heritage or do you see everything as disposable? Torrens Parade Ground has so much history attached to it, it'd be like bulldozing the Adelaide Gaol.
