While 5 levels is nothing, this new complex is going to be quite large as the block betweem Claxton & Selby streets is massive. Its great to hear this includes ground floor shops, hopefully it will kick start more development around that dodgy end of Gouger Street. :)

A recent Education Adelaide report said about 2700 new student apartments needed to be built in the inner-city by 2010,
Hopefully we will see some proposals over 50 metres high :), isnt that potential hi-rise tower on the renaissance arcade going to include student apartments?

From The Messenger:
Eight storey green office plan

Louise Russell

04Sep07

PLANS for a $20 million green office block on the corner of Gouger St and West Tce have been lodged with the City Council.

The eight-storey building would have a glass facade for Parklands' views and a series of ``artistically random'' shades to keep the building cool and to maximise natural light.

``Nothing like this has been done in Adelaide before,'' architect Paul Pruszinski said. Underneath would be a First Choice bottleshop alongside other retail, replacing the existing Liquorland outlet. Upper floors would be a mix of office space and parking.

``West Tce hasn't seen a lot of development in the last few years,'' Mr Pruszinski said. ``Hopefully (this) will bring West Tce up to a new level.''

Lord Mayor Michael Harbison, intent on selling the city during an election, described the the area as the ``undiscovered terrace''.

``West Tce is a great opportunity it has fantastic Parklands' views,'' he said.
Anyone know if there is a render in the actual paper. Sounds interesting.

That is truly horrendous. They have managed to make an ugly building even uglier and given themselves a maintenance nightmare at the same time.

I think it looks a lot better. The white paint is great. They applied for changes to the original DA regarding the finishes and shades etc they want to apply, this change was only recently approved, hence the slow progress. This one is no where near finished yet. Big improvement so far just with the white paint.

If they had used the money from the painting to add a couple of balconies or interesting sun shades instead the building would have looked much better. The building will now have to be repainted every 5-10 years. Money that could be spent on refurbishments instead.

This building is far from being finished if you look at the render on the previous pages there is sun shades and clours to be added.
