It's awesome compared to what's there now and it's great to see Forme Projex can break the six storey barrier (their tallest effort to date is the one just finishing on Gilbert St, which is actually lower than the ACC's "policy height" of 8 storeys if you can believe it). But yeah, given it surrounds basically our nicest 'park' square surely something a bit more impressive could be offered? I get the reality of needing sales etc but couldn't we aim for 9 or 10 storeys given what is built here will stand for probably a century...
Height is less of an issue here than quality of design.

I won't complain too stridently because this is hardly offensive and bringing more residents into the centre is patently a Good Thing. But the prime location of a city square warrants more than a suburban-grade tilt-up block.

Signage on site claims this development is sold out. Wonder why they haven't gone higher if its sold out before its even approved. Obviously massive demand.

Probably because Forme Projex only do low rise. This one seems a bit high for them as it is.

What ever happened with that other East Terrace proposal? The one that was of decent enough height to alarm David (former councillor/sometimes forum contributor).

Variations to the existing proposal were recently approved by the DAC, hence I think any delays to construction relate to having to wait to have these variations approved.

This is in the paper today for tenders.
Just checked this development on Google Earth, the site has been levelled, not sure on how construction is progressing though.

This one was deferred. The DAC had some issues with the design and bulk and have recommended a redesign.

An application was lodged with the ACC for an 8 level mixed-use building at 268 Waymouth Street. It appears the proposal will incorporate the existing historical façade into the proposal.

Expected cost: $3 million.

Issues with the bulk? Lol... even for the Hurtle Square area, that is such a small building in the grand scheme of things.

Bulk is different to height. The building is essentially one huge block of crap chucked on the corner of a prominent location. It needs further articulation as specified, whether that is done through set backs or other necessary means, aswell, the design needs more work. Continually forme projex churn out this same junk time after time.

the bulk and height is fine IMO, just the design needs to be improved, which will definitely confuse the Forme achitects
