Re: #Approved - Adelaide University - Engineering Building - 8 l
Opps forgot to change the title to approved.
Should be under construction shortly, as PT Building have setup there now. As soon as the refit of Tower building (Pulteney Street) is complete and all the staff are relocated to Tower building, demolition will start. But the offices that have been refitted in Tower building are filling up bloody fast.

The Mathematics Building won't be demolished until the end of the year, since there's still lectures and activities going on in the building, not many mind you. Was talking to a few members of staff in our faculty and they don't reckon the new building will start construction until next year.
There is a lot of works going on around the building, but this work is unrelated. The works currently going on are new piping that has been placed into a trench underneath the lawns by the Maths Building between the ECMS Faculty Buildings to somewhere else I don't know.

The renders look great. Will compliment the new Engineering Maths building quite nicely. Next to go: Engineering North!

AN INVITATION TO ALL STAFF AND STUDENTS
UNIVERSITY OF ADELAIDE BUILDING BRIEFING
Wednesday, 7 November 2007
12:40pm to 1:40pm
Napier 102 Lecture Theatre
Tea and coffee provided
The University of Adelaide is about to embark on one of the most significant and exciting building programs in its 137 year history.
In November this year, work will begin on one of South Australia's first Six Star Green Star buildings, a world class teaching
complex which will enhance the University's position as an Australian leader in Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Sciences.
This work will take place on the site currently occupied by the Mathematics Building.
This exciting, long-term project will have many benefits for staff and students at the University as well as the broader community.
The University acknowledges that in the short-term the construction phase will cause some disruptions.
The University is committed to ensuring that all members of the University community have access to relevant information about the
project. A Building Communications Committee has been established and will be headed by Trish Hughes, Director of Human Resources.
The role of this Committee is to ensure that communication is open and consistent and that any changes associated with the
construction are managed effectively. The Committee will be working in partnership with all users of the precinct to minimise
disruptions and manage issues as they arise.
You are invited to attend the inaugural public Building Briefing next week to hear about the building plans and changes on campus
(see details above). This briefing is an opportunity for you to gain an appreciation of the building process before work commences.
Additional meetings will be held with individual schools and with the occupants of buildings neighbouring the Engineering Computer &
Math Sciences precinct.

I trust we will have plenty of members to report back for those interstate.
Re: #Approved - Adelaide University - Engineering Building - 8 l
Probably me, because my faculty is right next to the Mathematics Building at Uni and I go past there almost every day during term...

What is the deal with this work? Is this the building they are gutting? Are the openings because of external lifts? How come they have only ripped out the walls of some floors?

those renders look really good! i cant believe someone designed something in Adelaide that actually looks good and matches its habitat, kudos to the architects/engineers. looking forward to seeing this one go up.
Re: #Approved - Adelaide University - Engineering Building - 8 l
imo most of the buildings at Adelaide uni from the last 15 years have looked brilliant and fit it with their surroundings well - Adelaide uni wants to keep its "sandstone" reputation. That whole area, the lower level site redevelopment already has the engineering mathematics building, school of petroleum engineering building, and biotechnology (i think it is) building and they all look great.
Unforuntately some of the buildings from the 70's and earlier still look terrible But they are nowhere near engineering at least :-p

Most of the buildings along the eastern side of the campus need to be upgraded IMO. Ligertwood, Engineering North, Engineering South and Engineering Annex need to be redone other than just refurbishing lecture theatres. The CATS suite up on the third floor of Engineering South needs upgrading as well, it is almost always full on most days. Hopefully they will do something with those buildings (particularly Engineering Annexe which is a dingy facility) after the new Engineering Building is complete.

I think the new SAWater building has beaten them to the punch on this front.University Briefing wrote: work will begin on one of South Australia's first Six Star Green Star buildings,

There's a series of large computer labs in the basement of Securities House on the south side of North Terrace. They're a bit older and might not have all the specific software, but they're a good spot to find a computer because most people either don't know it exists or are too lazy to walk!AG wrote:Most of the buildings along the eastern side of the campus need to be upgraded IMO.
