June 07 DAR has application confirmed for the construction of a 15 level student accomodation building.

demolish existing and construct 15-level building containing student accommodation - Stage 2 - Superstructure

Apparently this one has been in the works since 2003. Long time.

Crane is up on site... WTF?? I walked past the site yesterday and there was only the base in place. I went to uni this afternoon and saw the crane is in place. Only the boom needs to be lifted which will probably happen tomorrow as it is sitting on the ground ready. Fairly short crane at probably 2-3 floors above ground and no lifting collar. Guess they are not expecting construction to race ahead at speed.
Anyway it is good to see another crane in Adelaide's skyline - 5 up and probably 2 more soon on Gouger.

The crane is operational but only installed about 3 levels from the ground. I asked one of the construction guys who said that they will put a collar on the crane frame when they want to lift it higher takes 2-3 hours per section. Guess it will take a while for the foundations to be completed so will be several weeks before they need to lift it any further. Good that it is underway, that site was vacant for so long.

Is anyone working or going to uni around that way who can take progress pics for us? I'm on the other side of the cbd, and hardly get a chance to see the site.

Well this one may not be quiet as bad as first thought appearance-wise. The overall design is fairly standard/basic with too much concrete but some of the precast concrete has gone up and if this is the final colour and finish, it is much better than the first orange coloured renders. The current panels look much more like the render on page 4 of this thread with a lighter colour, almost sandstone-like. I would prefer more glass but it is better than that awful orange/red colour orignally proposed. Good to see they have pre-coloured the concrete too, much better than painting it. Took this quick pic today:

Quick, highly reflective in-car pic from today. Didn't want to open the window, there were a fair few suss people around given the location. Anyone willing to pay some danger money :D
