Adelaide to get new film industry hub
18:34 AEST Fri May 16 2008
6 days 18 hours 34 minutes ago
South Australia's film industry is to get a major boost with a $43 million state-of-the-art studio in Adelaide.
Premier Mike Rann announced the Adelaide Film and Screen Hub project during a visit to Los Angeles which included meetings with Hollywood film industry executives.
He said the new facilities, including two sound stages, production and post-production facilities and a screening theatre, would put the future of film production in South Australia beyond doubt.
"It will be a clearly visible demonstration of our commitment and ongoing support nationally and internationally for the future viability of the industry," Mr Rann said in a statement.
"There has been a resurgence in feature film production in South Australia in recent years as well as strong growth in post production and digital effects activity with South Australian creative talent making significant contributions to blockbusters such as the Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and Superman Returns."
Mr Rann said the film and television industry in SA contributed about $28 million annually to the local economy and employed about 100 people.
"In the past four years, 26 feature films have been made in SA," he said.
Construction of the new film and screen facilities will start in 2009 and should be completed the following year.

I think it was posted in the Glenside thread, but no harm letting it shine out here as well.

Norman, thanks for linking the images, in particular the last one of the site plan. As I mentioned earlier, I think building on the majority of that green space (the oval etc.) will be a huge mistake.

Re: Glenside redevelopment
But aren't they building on the oval, but making a huge park comprising a village green and a wetland? Meaning that there'll be more greenspace that can be better used by residents instead of just an oval?Ho Really wrote:Norman, thanks for linking the images, in particular the last one of the site plan. I doubt the blocks of land have increased though, they're probably smaller.urban wrote:...and the average size of an Australian home has doubled.Norman wrote:Just something I learnt at Uni today:

Not completely when you consider the heating, cooling and maintenance costs per person.Cruise wrote:Of course they are, Urban's stat is pointlessIn Australia, the average persons/house has decresed from 3.5 to 2.6 between 1961 and 2002.
