#ONH: Adelaide Airport Hotel | Andy Thomas Cct | 37m | 9Lvls
I thought this development deserved its own thread now that it has been granted Ministerial Approval.
Because the land is owned by the Commonwealth Adelaide Airport Limited requires approval by The Minister for Transport, Regional Development and Local Government. Where this differs from State Government or Council approval is that the Minister has not approved a particular design but instead, granted approval on the basis that one of the submitted design models is used. The designs are really only a guide as to the final look and feel of the development and as long as AAL and the developers stay within the conditions set down by the Minister, they require no further formal approvals.

MEDIA RELEASE
The Hon Anthony Albanese MP
Minister for Infrastructure, Transport,
Regional Development and Local Government
16 October 2008
AA153/2008
CONDITIONS ON ADELAIDE AIRPORT HOTEL DEVELOPMENT
I have approved a new hotel development at Adelaide Airport, subject to strict adherence to conditions that will ensure the design remains within the parameters of the details submitted by Adelaide Airport Limited.
I have imposed eleven stringent conditions on the project, which include measures to ensure the construction of the hotel has a minimal impact on the environment and operations of the airport.
Because the hotel is to be located close to the terminal, I have placed conditions that will ensure the building will not compromise the safety of aircraft and passengers.
The Rudd Labor Government is determined to ensure State and local governments have enough say in what gets built at our leased federal airports.
During my assessment of the MDP, I asked Adelaide Airport Limited to provide additional detail about the appearance of the building. I also required that the developer share this information with, and seek feedback from, State and local governments.
The proposed hotel is to be built on an existing car park adjacent to nearby car parking and close to major access roads. It will feature up to eight floors accommodating 200 rooms, up to 400 parking spaces; conference rooms, dining facilities and a gymnasium.
Adelaide Airport Limited proposes to tender the development.
Adelaide Airport Limited identified consistent growth in occupancy rates for hotel accommodation in Adelaide. The hotel will fill a need for transient accommodation in South Australia's capital city, and is likely to be used by staff and clients of companies located at the airport, as well as domestic business and regional travellers.
