What's a 'broadway' kiosk by the way?

It is basically a replacement for the old kiosk that was demolished last year. A kiosk is basically a small shop that sells cold drinks and ice blocks.

The word Broadway refers to the fact that the kiosk is located on the Broadway.

It would be good if they build something out off the jetty, like they used to have.

Council are putting it out to tender [again]. Just to get the documents costs approx. $100 and then they want someone to spend about $700,000 to build their approved plans on council land [ie they end up owning it!] Sure you might get a long term lease for minimal rent but it would take many years to re-coup your money. Needless to say they had no takers on the first tender last year. Lets hope they make it more attractive [ie contribute some $$$] or it will never get built.

Adelphi waters

#70 Post by gregrogers257 » Sat Feb 24, 2007 5:39 pm

There's was an article in todays advertiser saying that construction of the $35 million adelphi waters development should start in March and finish by the end of the year.

This project has been around for a long time now and that big empty block of land next to the Patawalonga is very ugly. Hopefully this project will start in March. That area in glenelg north will be great once this is finished.

If that ferris wheel hasn't gone up as yet now that it is still warm weather, I doubt we'll see it erected for the up-coming winter months.

Cheers

Well if they have paid for it and its arrived it would be pointless to have it sitting in storage. It will be costing someone heaps. I heard a rumour that council was holding it up with new engineering demands. Can anyone confirm?

Dolphin Arch on Jetty Road?

#75 Post by Will » Thu Jul 12, 2007 10:22 am

Councillor wants dolphin arch

TWO giant dolphins arching over Jetty Rd have been proposed as an "entry statement" to Glenelg.

The dolphins would stand at the junction of Jetty Rd and Brighton Rd, suggests Holdfast Bay councillor Philip Crutchett. He estimates it will cost ratepayers about $100,000.

The gateway would be complemented by brass dolphins attached to rubbish bins in a similar fashion to Rundle Mall's famous pigs.

Mr Crutchett even suggested the arch could be adapted so dolphin flippers would support the road's tram wires.

"I am keen for the entry statement to be forward-thinking and drive the City of Holdfast Bay's marketing themes," he says.

Mr Crutchett said his idea "would encourage the entry statement to be a must-see".

A new entry statement for the precinct was recommended by the Jetty Road Urban Design framework, adopted by the council in August last year.
