I don't really understand why developers are so eager to prop up low/medium-rise developments on the fringe of the city? In-case they haven't noticed, we have a massive city grid that for the most part hasn't been developed. Not to mention there are also an abundant of vacant office buildings along Fullarton and Greehill Road that that could be converted into apartments...
Read the article again. The original hotel will be preserved, the development is for the open lot car park area, and part of the beer garden. The location is closer to the thick of the city than many spots within the square mile. It will have unbroken views over the Botanic Gardens and Rundle Park, and the East End is a couple of minutes away by foot. That area of Kent Town is also covered by the height increases for urban infill.
Added emphasis, as it really is the key.

Adding density across the square mile is of course important, but we really do get the most benefit from increasing the critical mass of already established areas. And with the the hospital leaving the East End, bringing in extra residents will help to keep that precinct a thriving part of the city.

Now that I think about it - 15 levels is a sizable development. That ought to be about 60m?

More like 45-48m. Residential apartments typically have a floor to floor height between 3-3.2m, whereas offices have a floor to floor height between 3.8-4.0m.

That wouldn't make it the tallest outside the Adelaide CBD then.

Air Apartments is 55m, Atlantic Tower Glenelg is 48m.

I think The Advertiser were going by the number of level not the height. I guess at 15 levels that's the most outside of the CBD but not actually the tallest as Air apartments was an old office building converted. It could be tallest but will have to wait further information unlike the advertiser who just speculate and write it as fact.

Similar organisations exist interstate too.

As an example, I recall there was a similar one in Melbourne that protested against the proposed freeway that was cancelled by the new state government.

No, they were actually very right in fighting that cause. Read the reports on it, the freeway was an expensive lemon that was going to do more damage to culturally significant areas than actually provide what it was intended to provide. Melbourne need more invested in rail infrastructure, whilst there are some issues with their freeway network the east-west link in the form it was proposed was not a solution. Just like aspects of the MATS plan here.

you are right, I was being a bit facetious.

Funnily enough I stayed a week or so in one of the areas that would have benefited from it, well in theory.

they all wanted a none existent tram line, the people I spoke too were starting to regret the way it panned out because now they'll get nothing

This is now on public notification.

One of the more interesting designs we have had. Looks as though the whole façade is movable. Opening and closing champagne coloured mesh.

There will be 128 apartments in this development.

Very unique and interesting design. The cladding will either make or break this building.

It could be an architectural masterpiece or a hideous mess, giving the nearby North Terrace House some competition.
