Here's a list of level crossings that should be removed sooner rather than later, based on a quick Google Maps scan. Removing these crossings will improve safety, efficiency, pedestrian movements, access and interchangeability. Where located close to a station, grade separation projects can include station rebuilds, providing an opportunity for modernisation. Ideally though, there should be no level crossings in Adelaide.

Gawler Line:
1. Park Terrace, Salisbury.
2. Kings Road, Parafield.
3. Torrens Road, Brompton.

Outer Harbor/Grange Lines:
4. Woodville Road, Woodville.
5. Trimmer Parade/Tapleys Hill Road, Seaton.

Seaford Line:
6. Leader Street, Wayville.
7. South Road/Cross Road, Clarence Park.
8. Raglan Avenue, Edwardstown.
9. Brighton Road, Hove.

Belair Line:
10. Cross Road, Hawthorn.

Less urgent but will probably be necessary in future, OR provide an opportunity for general precinct improvements:
Semaphore Road, Exeter.
Fussell Place, Alberton.
Cheltenham Parade, Cheltenham/St Clair.
Port Road, Albert Park.
David Terrace/Kilkenny Road, Kilkenny.
Anderson Walk, Smithfield.
Curtis Road, Munno Para.
Our state, our city, our future.

Cross Road, Hawthorn is probably among the worst ones you've listed. If we're talking about creating a better corridor between the S/E Freeway and the N/S corridor then I would suggest sending Cross Road above the tramline and both intersections nearby.

Adelaide to Port Dock should be all grade separated. When Port Dock station opens, there will be even more trains going through there, the crossings will barely be open.

Looking ahead, making it grade separated makes automation easier.

I'd like to add Blackwood Crossing to the Belair Line list. Main Road can get very backed up when the booms come down, and the crossing's proximity to Blackwood station doesn't help. Also due to the proximity to the heritage station, lack of rail corridor width for an Oaklands-style solution, and the gentle long gradients used on the more recent rail underpasses (probably needs to be moreso for freight trains), some kind of road overpass to raise Main Road is probably the more feasible solution.

Damn it Glanville could been a good opportunity to create a future Park'n'Ride for Semaphore and surrounding suburbs. Expand the western carpark into the old rail corridor for the Birkenhead loop; and now we've sold it off...

The development looks like it's Transit Oriented Development, which is generally seen as "good" near railway stations. Better than where I live where some of the patches of higher density don't seem to be near rail, bus stops or shops.

Why wouldn’t we invest money into our train system? They are much quicker then taking the bus and tram yet there are no train lines built to the northeastern suburbs or eastern suburbs? Even south there is only one line, surely this is another area that needs funding to get these stupid buses off our roads.

It's North that only has one line. South has Belair, Tonsley (soon Flinders) and Seaford. The northern lines to Northfield and Penfield have been closed and removed. The Dry Creek to Port Adelaide line isn't connected to the network any more and is only used for Standard Gauge freight.

So is Gawler line still supposed to be fully electrified by the end of 2020? If so, when will they be starting works?

Some minor works have been done lately.

It's taken an eternity for any concrete progress though (pun intended).

Can't help but feel that the Libs have slowed an aspect of it down.

The below may also be the reason for the project stalling....

Prospect vows to fight state’s ‘chainsaw massacre’ of its trees

Prospect is ready for war. The State Government wants to remove hundreds of trees the community planted decades ago for a rail project — but it’s facing a huge public backlash.

Anthony Johnson, The City Subscriber only May 30, 2019 4:28pm

Hundreds of Prospect trees face the chop

The ongoing tree stoush between the State Government and Prospect residents and councillors is building in intensity.

Its warring factions are fired up by sensations of anger, humiliation, arrogance, broken promises and a sense of betrayal.

The fuse was lit earlier this month with the disclosure that the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) was planning to wipe out more than 300 trees and shrubs along Devonport Tce, Prospect as part of the Gawler line electrification project.

Irate residents have started a petition to save the trees and shrubs, many of them planted by volunteers over two decades to screen homes which face directly on to the rail corridor and improve the local station’s image.

The department has offered Prospect Council only $14,600 in compensation for the potential loss of tree cover, vegetation and quality of environment.

This conflicts with the council’s own calculations, which have valued just 63 trees and 160 shrubs among those set to go at $574,136.

At this week’s Prospect Council meeting, members unanimously demanded that DPTI “cease and desist” all further project work, set for completion in 2020, until the festering dispute is resolved.

The council also demanded that Transport and Infrastructure Minister Stephan Knoll engage, and pay, a landscape architect to retain as much of the threatened vegetation as possible.

Protesting Prospect residents with Cr Kristina Barnett and Mayor David O'Loughlin (centre) on Devonport Tce, Prospect, where 300 trees and shrubs are marked for removal.

Mayor David O’Loughlin, who spoke to Mr Knoll this week, upped the ante.

He condemned the plan as a “chainsaw massacre”.

The mayor told councillors the minister “thinks we are overstating the extent of the destruction” but added that Mr Knoll appeared “suitably agitated” his department was pursuing “completely contradictory” agendas.

“On the one hand the State Government has a stated objective of greening and cooling the environment by sponsoring tree planting but on the other they are bent on killing anything in sight,” he said.

Mr O’Loughlin has asked for a formal meeting with Mr Knoll to thrash out the issue.

This followed an apparent backtrack by the department on an earlier commitment to work collaboratively with the council.

Instead, it had announced plans for the wholesale destruction of all but two trees along the Devonport Tce corridor.

“The council and the State Government need to work together to get the best outcome — but we are certainly not going to stand for this chainsaw massacre,” Mr O’Loughlin said.

The department has not responded to questions from The Advertiser on the total number of trees earmarked for removal along the entire length of Adelaide to Gawler electrification project.

Cr Kristina Barnett, whose West Ward in Prospect includes the rail corridor, said the government should have no illusions about the “palpable anger” of many local residents on the issue.

“We were led to believe that we would be properly consulted about the development but the latest proposals would absolutely ruin all the work that has been put into greening Devonport Tce,” Cr Barnett told fellow councillors.

“DPTI has driven roughshod over us and have shown no respect towards residents.”

Fellow West Ward councillor and deputy mayor Matt Larwood said the government should be “embarrassed” by its lack of good faith consultation on the sensitive issue.

“It’s clear they wanted to back us into a corner so that we would have no choice but to go along with this,” he said.

“We need to use every tool at our disposal to push back against the State Government and DPTI and let them know that we are serious about fighting against this devastation.”

That plan of sending across roads about the tram line was part of the pervious Gov plan. The libs have mentioned it twice now and have done nothing on it too. Pulling money each time.

Train line at Hawthorn? The tramline at Cross Rd while needing consideration isn't on the potential S/E N/S link.

Other end of Cross Rd to the tram - the Belair line and Interstate line to Melbourne. Definitely a priority intersection.
