News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
An express bus takes 40 minutes from Darlington to the city in the morning peak, compared to 22 minutes on an all stop train service. If they can complete the underground city loop, the transfer will be a no brainer really.
Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
And with the multitudes of 'express' buses passing that station in peak times you could justify a 15/10 min frequency easily.
Some current Tinsley services are semi express already. Theres no reason not to offer this interchange.

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
The single spur line could not achieve a 10 minute frequency.

Is the new Flinders station to be built on the northern edge of the carpark that sits north of the Innovation for Cancer Centre? Or is the carpark going, to be replaced by the train station?......this area looks about 150 metres from the bus stops, maybe a covered walkway with improved lighting/streetscapes could be built betwen the station and the buses, encouraging people to transfer.

The new station will sit right to the north of the existing car park.PeFe wrote:Is the new Flinders station to be built on the northern edge of the carpark that sits north of the Innovation for Cancer Centre? The line can support a 15 minute frequency at most at the moment, and currently has a 20 minute frequency during peak.
Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
If demand warranted a 10 min service frequency in the future (which I can only see happening once a CBD rail tunnel is built), it would be quite easy and inexpensive to double track the Tonsley line between the Mitchell Park station until just before the start of the overpass over Sturt Rd. There would be no need to double track the viaduct section between Sturt Rd and the terminating Flinders station.Norman wrote: ↑Thu Oct 04, 2018 10:01 pmThe new station will sit right to the north of the existing car park.PeFe wrote:Is the new Flinders station to be built on the northern edge of the carpark that sits north of the Innovation for Cancer Centre? It's certainly part of the plans to double track part of the line near Clovelly Park station as part of upgrading that station. There's land set aside to duplicate the track along there.ml69 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 05, 2018 12:52 amIf demand warranted a 10 min service frequency in the future (which I can only see happening once a CBD rail tunnel is built), it would be quite easy and inexpensive to double track the Tonsley line between the Mitchell Park station until just before the start of the overpass over Sturt Rd. A passing point will allow at least 15 minute service which will be a big improvement. Not sure if the controversy caused by closing Tonsley station will end up impacting the plan though. The Clovelly Park station was to be rebuilt and renamed 'Tonsley Station' and hopefully that will still go ahead.

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
In the animation, the cycle path on the viaduct looks like a second track. Is that the plan, to upgrade the cycle path to a second track at some point?
Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
No, the cycle and pedestrian bridge is for pedestrians and cyclists. Completely different design.1NEEDS2POST wrote:In the animation, the cycle path on the viaduct looks like a second track. Is that the plan, to upgrade the cycle path to a second track at some point?
Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
Looking at the design in the planning approval, I suspect the path could be removed and a second line added without rebuilding the bridge
Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
Why would you want to remove the walking and cycling path though? They are key parts of the project. You might also get engineering issues like they experienced on the South Road tram overpass' walking and cycling track.Mr Messy wrote:Looking at the design in the planning approval, I suspect the path could be removed and a second line added without rebuilding the bridge
Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
At the moment you wouldn't as there is no reason to duplicate that section of line.
I'd have to have another look, but I recall the viaduct is balanced on the middle of the pylons so changing the western side to rail wouldn't really affect anything

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
They'd have to be building a metro under Flinders Uni or something to warrant duplicating the line so not really ever going to be on the cards I don't think
Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
Is there any info on what electric trains they plan to buy for the Gawler line?
Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
It will go out for tender hopefully, so hopefully this time they will be of better quality compared to last time when there was (allegedly) no open tender.Goodsy wrote:Is there any info on what electric trains they plan to buy for the Gawler line?
