No the DIFFERENCE is six and a half inches, the gap is that minus the width of one rail, so 3 inches or less depending on the type of rail used. The problem is brake hoses, ballast (rock) and the like can get jammed in between the rails, but can be hard to spot.skyliner wrote:Further, for those who can't conceptualise issues with duel gauge - Standard gauge is 4 foot eight and a half inches and broad is 5 foot three inches - the gap being six and a half inches or about 16 cm. it is quite possible to operate both effectively as seen in duel gauge stations in SA.
As for dual gauge stations, try finding one ?
Broad and Standard to be specific, Keswick interstate is the only one that comes to mind, but the broad gauge is disconnected.

With reference to difference and gap you are right mate! Shame on me, being interested in railways too!.fabricator wrote:No the DIFFERENCE is six and a half inches, the gap is that minus the width of one rail, so 3 inches or less depending on the type of rail used. With reference to duAl gauge stns - I was referring over a longer time span rather than just currently. Take the Rosewater for example.
And yes, it does require maintenance to keep an effective clearway but is still operable.

Ten points for the correct spelling, but I'll have to take your gunzel badge away for the gap issue.skyliner wrote:With reference to difference and gap you are right mate! Shame on me, being interested in railways too!.

Port Adelaide had dual gauge for a while.
It really had 5 rails.

Thanks mate - I feel much better now You know the duel/dual scenario was probably a function of the 'fat finger' syndrome.monotonehell wrote:Ten points for the correct spelling, but I'll have to take your gunzel badge away for the gap issue.skyliner wrote:With reference to difference and gap you are right mate! Last nights closure(after 930pm) of the Tram service between Brighton Road and Moseley Square was to enable new overhead wiring to be installed on the Southern side of Jetty Road.Tonight the Northern side will be done.
