Thanks for the pics.

It is a real shame they didn't underground the high voltage powerlines. It would have looked so much better if they had, especially once the project is complete.

That high voltage line feeds the Hindley Street substation (and maybe others). It might become redundant when the ElectraNet
underground cable & Keswick substation start operating from 2011.

Substation is mentioned in the World Park thread

I think you might be right.

I found this map showing the route of the underground cable from the Electranet website. Surely the other lines will be removed. That would explain why they are staying above ground for now. Well I hope so anyway.

wow! that probably means all cabling will be undergrounded along Port Rd. Hope so! it will look sooo much nicer...
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

I don't think the power lines on Port Road are not to do with Electranet. This is their net work as it stands:

But I might be wrong!

You are not wrong - the 66kV (?) lines along Port Road belong to ETSA Utilities, and they do feed Hindley Street substation, which will be
connected to City West via Whitmore Square substation... The section from Southwark Bridge could be made redundant, but the "North
Adelaide Tee" also tees off there along Park Tce & Fitzroy Tce to (somewhere) and needs to remain. A complicated network & ownership.

The "tee" stands out in this pic of the tram works on Southwark Bridge ... (on topic tram bit)

Lot of details about City West here http://www.electranet.com.au/getprojectfile.php?id=49

The tram extension on Port Road will finish just in time for ElectraNet to do its dig for the cable in 2010.

Sorry if this is in the incorrect thread, but the first of Adelaide's new Citadis trams from Madrid was delivered to Preston Workshops in Melbourne yesterday. There are three photos of it's delivery taken by user pigmeat in the RailSA Flickr group.

Thanks Alyx. I just had a look for myself - I gotta say, they're fucking sexy as. I hope they'll retain the blue/white/red livery on them. I think it's a good fit - very "Australian". I'd hate for them to be brandished in the god-awful Adelaide Metro livery.

Not as interesting as the new tram perhaps, but some pics of the Port Road rail bridge with beams in position:

Current livery isn't that bad, it would look a lot better though if it was more then just straight lines.

Thanks to Xaragmata and Alyx for the photo updates.

I would wager that the trams will sport the AdMet livery before they enter service.
