Not to labour the point but why does it need to be part of t2t project? The DPTI can include it as part of a new division, commonsense projects. They have to do it anyway & its not much cost at all, so why wait another 2-3 years?

Two to three years difference ... of bottle necks & traffic banking up and all unnecessarily.

You should join the train and tram threads. Where you can endlessly rant and rave with other non decision makers about how you could build this better.how good is he wrote:Two to three years difference ... of bottle necks & traffic banking up and all unnecessarily.

It is fascinating to see so many comments here and other fora that it is not good enough now that it is open. There was little complaint at the time it was announced or any time since that
- it separated Port Road rather than Regency Road.
- the scope was extended to include Torrens Road and removed another set of lights at no extra cost
- it has opened the months early with no cost blowout
[U/C] Re: North-South Motorway
You can't just remove access to Pym Street and across South Road without proper consultation with the community. This part of the consultation will be done with the Regency to Pym project, where all the options can be presented, including a possible overpass, underpass, closure, etc. This will all be worked out soon anyway.

Seeing how we had york civil go in to administration is it time the Highways Department was brought back to construct roads?

York Civil going under is the exact reason outsourcing is better.Eurostar wrote:Seeing how we had york civil go in to administration is it time the Highways Department was brought back to construct roads?
They lost millions of dollars of not tax payers money. All the risk was loaded on the shareholders, banks, suppliers and contractors. If the Highway Department blew out a job it would be 100% worn by the all tax payers every time.

Has anyone seen York Civil's books to know whether the major SA contracts were the cause of its problems, or what kept it afloat as long as it was, or any other scenario? For all I know, it could be the big projects providing the income to keep going over small contracts and missed contracts. The cost of putting in a serious bid but not getting the contract would be a huge drain on funds and resources with no return whatsoever.bits wrote: ↑Wed Oct 03, 2018 12:21 amYork Civil going under is the exact reason outsourcing is better.Eurostar wrote:Seeing how we had york civil go in to administration is it time the Highways Department was brought back to construct roads?

If it is anything like the general construction industry at present, many firms are quoting at close to cost just to keep their people employed, and the workflow going. All very well until something goes wrong, or there are penalties relating to timing issues (sometimes caused by suppliers) and then the whole thing unravels. Great that outsourcing is assisting the taxpayer-but if it is at the cost of large businesses going under, then it bites the taxpayer in the end anyway, as another company is brought in to clean up the mess, usually at a much inflated price. The Swan River footbridge in Perth is an example of this, a project which York was involved in.SBD wrote: ↑Wed Oct 03, 2018 8:11 amHas anyone seen York Civil's books to know whether the major SA contracts were the cause of its problems, or what kept it afloat as long as it was, or any other scenario? Well after driving on it the other day I can certainly say it gets the thumbs-up from me. Fantastic surface, as smooth as it gets. Certainly a lot better than the Southern Expressway when that opened which had lumps and bumps everywhere. Top job. Just can't wait till it's all done but to be frank that probably will be another 12-14 years away.

Yeh totally agree. Amazingly smooth road surface unlike so many other road projects or renewals in Adelaide.Thunderstruck wrote: ↑Wed Oct 03, 2018 9:33 pmWell after driving on it the other day I can certainly say it gets the thumbs-up from me. Can't wait till the whole corridor is finished. IMHO, after driving on T2T, the rest of the corridor should be done exactly the same with a trench.

The surface is such high quality because it's a different standard to most roads in Adelaide. Think of it as freeway grade.rev wrote: ↑Thu Oct 04, 2018 6:04 pmYeh totally agree. T2T itself is outstanding. What a contrast from what that stretch was to what it is today.
One thing I've noticed is since T2T has opened, the Superway has been considerably busy - especially southbound and the South Rd/Regency Rd intersection. It shows the importance that the link between T2T and the Supweway needs to be started ASAP (not holding my breath this will happen with Knoll running the show these days).
