It's rather small, indeed.

I can't believe people are still flogging this dead horse of an idea that Adelaide Airport will suffice in the future. :wank:

It has as many runways as Tullamarine. I think you're having a :wank: if you think AAL and the Govt will abandon the huge sums of money recently poured into the place.

Well, I'll become Premier then. And whence that shall happen, I shall relocate the airport.

Isn't it Federal land? You may need to be Prime Minister.

And even then it'll still need to go though the Senate. AAL would be non too pleased, expect demands for compensation or legal challenges.

This is why Sydney has no second airport.

Worse than Canberra Airport? (well, the renovations weren't finished when I was last there, I'm not sure what it's like now)

Doesn't the Perth Airport upgrade include a rail line to it as well? Could explain the higher cost.

....anyway, back on topic...
Tiger Airways makes new routes to Brisbane

BRISBANE will be the newest daily destination for Tiger Airways taking off from Adelaide in March 2010.

Adelaide Airport managing director, Phil Baker, said Tiger Airways will also be doubling the number of its flights to Melbourne.

"SA travellers will have more flights to choose from to major Australian destinations with Tiger's announcement of the Brisbane route and additional Melbourne services out of its Adelaide base," Mr Baker said.

"Adelaide Airport's business continues to grow, and attracting new services to major domestic destinations is clearly good news."

Tiger Airways extra flights will coincide with a third aircraft based at Adelaide Airport, creating another 30 aviation-related jobs.

The latest episode in the Adelaide Airport curfew saga....
Adelaide Airport flight fiasco - plane diverted after curfew

A QANTAS flight on final approach to Adelaide last night was diverted to Canberra at the last minute because it would have landed minutes after the airport's 11pm curfew.

The flight was late taking off from Sydney due to severe weather.

As it was descending, the pilot contacted the Department of Infrastructure in Canberra for permission to land.

Permission was denied and the aircraft was diverted to Canberra.

The aircraft landed about 12.30am Canberra time, and Qantas then had to find accommodation for the passengers and crew.

Were you on the diverted flight? Add your comment below or contact our newsdesk by emailing [email protected]

Passenger Graham told ABC Radio this morning the plane was descending into Adelaide Airport at one minute past 11pm when the pilot told them they had to be diverted to Canberra.

"We didn't get to bed until about 2am and then we were up again two hours later to get the flight back to Adelaide," he said.

The Adelaide Airport curfew applies to passenger planes, which are prohibited from landing between 11pm and 6am.

Adelaide Airport's general manager of corporate affairs, John McCardle, said the same thing happened to a Virgin flight from Perth earlier this week, which had to divert to Melbourne.

"Interestingly, if it was an international flight it probably would have been allowed to land, but seeing it was a domestic flight it wasn't," he said.

"These are seriously archaic regulations that haven't been reviewed or reconsidered for decades.

"All of the houses under the flight path have been insulated, on average the flying public contributed to the insulation of those home to the tune of $67,000 per home.

"We are saying there is a need review the regulations. Aircraft are much quieter now than what they were."

John Gottlob, section head of aircraft noise at the Department of Infrastructure, said: "I am not prepared to talk to the media."

This folks is exactly why more airlines havent added Adelaide as a destination port.

The time has come for the AA curfew to be seriously reviewed....

Sydney has a curfew too. You can't use that as a blanket excuse for anything wrong with Adelaide.

It sounds like its an administration problem. Perhaps rather than a blanket ban there should simply be a fine per minute after curfew. It could be based on brackets so an aircraft that is just five minutes late gets a slap on the wrist while an aircraft that is over an hour late is better off diverting.
