Drove past last night and after 8 years dpti are finally resurfacing the whole area around the crossing so nothing will be done re overpass this decade IMO 2019/2020 before funding will be available at a cost of about $ 180 200 million dollars if past dpti projects are anything to go by . We may see this after the next state election just before the 2022 election

Judging by past projects spending money is exactly the reason this will happen. We know the govermnment do not forward plan, just look at the massive structure they've built here that needs to be torn down. I wouldn't be surprised if something happens in the next 4 years.

I'm more than happy to see an overpass here, as the current set of two really close traffic lights and train crossing sucks ass, but I mean it seems so confusing!
Some warned that the traffic on the crossing would increase as a result of the development nearby, which did prove to be correct.
However at the time the politicians decided that grade separating road and rail wasn't needed. Seems the real problems relate to needing to figure out if the road or rail should go on a bridge, where they money comes from, etc.
I suspect there was also bad advice given by the road department itself which cancelled out information from rail and traffic study planners.

There is no way the bridge will be build in the near term, the disruption from all the previous rail construction was too much for residents. Besides which there is less money for rail with the current federal government around.
Next projects are grade separating Port road/railway from Main South Road and electrifying the railway to Salisbury.

This I find short sighted. Even if the government of the day favours road over rail investment, a grade separation project benefits both modes of transport.

I don't have an issue with the feds favoring one form of transport over another, the key is the amount not changing.

if the Feds spend 200m on roads instead of rail, that's 200m the state don't. So that money should go into rail on a state basis and not be held back in a blame game.

Meanwhile the Hove crossing is of much greater concern than the Oaklands one IMO, as the Brighton Road congestion can't be alleviated by adding another lane. I notice there's a block of land next to it for sale - why hasn't the government bought it?

Disagree. Hove is no more of a concern than Oaklands. An Oaklands grade separation would also allow for a more efficient bus interchange so people can better access Marion Shopping Centre and the State Swimming Centre. Ideally, if money was never an issue in SA - I'd suggest a moderate redirection of the track underneath Marion Shopping Centre - accessing Marion via rail is as inconvenient as trying to access Chadstone Shopping Centre via rail in Melbourne.

Though grade separation at both Hove and Oaklands will eventually be needed, the current congestion problem at Oaklands could be alleviated just by widening the road, but there's no interim solution available for Hove.

And if you think rerouting the track via Marion Shopping Centre is a moderate redirection, what would you count as an extreme redirection?

Election 2016: Turnbull commits $40m to fix Oaklands Road congestion

Road congestion at Oaklands Crossing in Adelaide's south-west will be eased with a $40 million investment if the Coalition retains government, the Prime Minister has said.

Key points:
• $2 million to be spent on planning Marion Road upgrades
• Other levels of government called on to contribute
• New Naval and Integration Headquarters opened at Raytheon

Malcolm Turnbull has visited the electorates of Adelaide and Hindmarsh and committed the money towards separating the rail line from the road.

The congestion affects commuters at the Diagonal and Morphett roads intersection.

The City of Marion earlier this year said it caused traffic delays of up to 20 minutes during peak hour and the boom gates for the railway crossing closed the road for about two hours each day.

It organised a rally during May and called on State and Federal governments to build a grade separation of the road and railway.

Mr Turnbull said more money would be needed from other levels of government.

He also promised $2 million to plan an upgrade of Marion Road, which will investigate a grade separation of Marion from the intersection of Anzac Highway to Cross Road.

It will also investigate a grade separation of Marion Road from the tram line to Cross Road, and a tramline overpass of Marion and Cross roads.

Mr Turnbull also opened the new Naval and Integration Headquarters for Raytheon, one of the country's largest defence contractors that employs about 370 people in Adelaide and about 1,200 people nationally.

He revealed it had been awarded a $297 million contract to upgrade and maintain the Woomera Test Range site in the state's north.

It will be used to test F-35 Joint Strike Fighters.

"The upgrading of all the measuring and monitoring and sensor systems ... will make it the most advanced test range in the world," Mr Turnbull said.

"And this will be done by Raytheon in partnership with a number of small and medium enterprises."

The contract was awarded in April but the Coalition held the announcement until today.

Raytheon is currently the combat system integrator for the Collins Class submarines and the Air Warfare Destroyer project and is hoping to win the contract to install combat systems in Australia's next fleet of submarines.

It annoys me when people cannot write English that clearly conveys a concept. What does the above actually mean? I suspect that what they are doing is investigating building a bridge for the tramline over Marion and Cross Roads but they have tried to make it sound like it's more extensive.

I love how Mulligan is saying its not enough, then clearly forgetting it was his mob who build the damn thing at ground level back in 2009 when it should be been grade separated then :applause: :applause:

Then of course it will take much longer than it should have because certain groups want to ensure it is that way. Melbourne does 18 months of work in 37 days, we'll do it the opposite way.
