Re: #COM: Glenelg Tram upgrade: City West, South Rd

Yesterday I was riding to the city from the Entertainment Centre, when the driver announced that there was a problem with the signalling to the single track under the bridge.

As a result, there were six trams held up at the bridge until the problem was fixed.

I see this as another example (amongst several) that Adelaide has lost the knowhow to really run a tram system properly.

In the example given, the service could have been kept going by use of a signal person quite safely. In fact with line of sight, the drivers could have signalled each other quite safely, and this is standard fare in tram systems round the world.

A further example of useless signalisation is at the Entertainment Centre and City West where there is a set of signals just before the points. I can think of plenty of busier situations round the world where such signalling is not even considered, and where trams operate with complete safety. I suspect that whoever is running the show has delusions that trams are heavy rail.

I will be very interested to hear this one.

I know it isn't going down Hutt Street, but one can only hope.
