If it's any indication of how far they are behind - One of the subcontractors was to take delivery of 15t-20t of dry ice to shrink one of the pins last month - they postponed it until late August, which is 2-3 month after it was meant to happen...

In the Portside messenger there was an article that said the new port river bridges will only be allowed to open for 30 minutes a day. 15 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes in the evening (approx 6am till 6:15am and 7pm till 7:15pm) with the possibility of one more 15 minute opening shedule on weekends.

80 million well spent hey?

I kinda figure that's fair enough. The road and rail bridges are primarily a major freight route, and are opening to allow the relatively small number of tall craft into and out of the inner harbour. If you happen to own a tall craft and keep it in that part of the harbour, you will just have to organise your cruise times around the bridge openning times. It's not as if you're going to need to go in and out several times a day, every day.
cheers,
Rhino

I wish they made these bridges a little higher, at least then some of the bigger pleasure crafts being desined these days could pass under with no problems. Sail yachts are a different proposition they'll have to wait for bridge opening times. The 15 minutes are not a lot. Hopefully those buying properties in the Inner Harbour will own small motoryachts. Those people pay taxes (marinas and boats) so I guess they want some value back.

Cheers

Sometimes allowance for historical significance costs money. In this case, it'd be very sad if the docks at Port Adelaide were never to see tall ships again. $80 million dollars is a small price to pay to preserve this....

It's getting there. The opening span for the rail bridge seems to be in place.

AtD, thanks for the Fisherman's Wharf angle. It shows how high the bridge is above the water and to a transiting tug. Anyone know for sure where the tugs will be stationed? Is it Dock No.2 or just north of the railway bridge on the eastern side?

I don't know for sure, but looking at the height of that tug and the height of the bridge, and knowing what the opening times for the bridge are, I hope the tugs will be stationed north of the bridge! :)
cheers,

Yeah, ships can leave at anytime. I am guessing two of them may be stationed at Outer Harbor since they have added the panamax bulk (grain) carrier wharf up there. The other two somewhere north of the bridge, logically.

Cheers
