Guys forget about moving Adelaide International Airport to anywhere but its current position. As for Parafield relocating, it won't be going anywhere until AAL decide to give it up. A (domestic) Monarto airport sounds nice, but why have two airports so close to each other? ADL is easily accessible from Murray Bridge.

Cheers

Oi how about this.

Relocate RAAF edinborough base to Monarto.......and then move West Beach Adel Intl to Edinborough?? There is much more land at edinborough than at west beach intl.

We can leave parafield as it is and use the northern expressway to get people to the airport and back!!!

And did anyone realise there is a rail line that runs through there already??? We could make an airport line there for no cost really!!

Also if we did this we might not need a curfew!!!

Then sell the land at west beach for huge development potential that should easily pay for the land at monarto!!

All the cooperations that run at the airport will go to the north and will do good to the economy there....what uz reckon??

Ok well besides the fact that we have invested in a new terminal.... would you consider edinborough a good spot to put a international airport if we relocate the RAAF base to monarto, because we have a rail line running through it, and possibly no curfew, and will have much slacker building heights in the city, and a future expressway near by??

I'm sure there is a security risk of the drunk and homeless up there who might throw bottles and bongs at the plane

LOL.....well they should upgrade to electric fences maybe.

But then again Tullamarine airport in melbourne seems to work well with the scummy western suburbs people there.

Jimmy, They should build a freeway to your new airport from Outer Harbor, with a bridge over the Barker Inlet!t

i don't understand this thread ! we have a brand new airport! :? (terminal anywayz)

the only possible reason to add an additional one would be problems with runway length, question, is AAP's runway short compared with the other's around the nation?

As someone else mentioned in this thread, these questions should have been asked before the new terminal was built..

The Erinsborough Airport idea is a very good one. The only downfall is that the southern suburbs residents have to travel further to get there. Mind you, Tullamarine Airport in Melbourne is already some 20-25km from the CBD, let alone the rest of the south, so it shouldn't be too bad.

Well we did extend our main runway like over 10 years ago and it is kinda an average length compared to other airports runway sizes.

Just recapping points to why edinbourough should had been used for a possible new airport instead of the new terminal being built...

1. It will slacken our height restrictions in the city and keep the airport further away from the hills.

2. We already have a rail line that runs through the area so we wouldn't need to invest very much money to incorporate a airport line.

3. Might be possible to run our airport without a curfew like Tullamarine.

4. There is a planned northern expressway being built nearby so it will be very cheap to just add a ramp from the new airport to the northern expressway.

5. Will move the cooperations that deal with the airport (eg export park etc) to the north near Elizabeth which will do good for the economy there.

6. There is a larger area space at Edinbourough than West Beach which will benefit any future expansions.

7. RAAF being at monarto will do good for the economy in the far hills.

8. If the southerners whine like hell (which they will) about being 60+km from the airport, this will push the government to put in a north/south corridor and grade separate Port Wakefield road between Virginia and Salisbury hwy. (Far fetched point)

Then just move RAAF to monarto using the funds from selling off land at west beach. I believe it will also add value to the inner west (netley, west richmond) as the airport has gone, and add value to Elizabeth as there will be more jobs there.

Only problem is, as everyone has pointed out, is that yes we have already spent big money on a new terminal which was a shame because the money could had gone to relocating the airports and doing it there.

Got to remember when you talk about moving the RAAF, you're talking an entirely new level of bureaucracy to deal with. You're talking State, Federal, Defence, AAL, etc, etc, etc, to move something we already have running successfully. The cost wouldn't justify the benefit by a long shot.

Its a good idea relocating the airport to Edinburgh, but with the new $260m terminal at AAL and the Federal Government pumping in over a billion dollars into the Edinburgh Defence Precinct, it wont be happening in the next 20+ years (thats if it ever happens.....)
