The first had something covering the tiered/stepped back of the grandstand and on the new one this is gone.

Was it glass? Canvas?

I think it was glass or perspex and at a guess, would say that it went as both a cost-cutting measure and to keep the new stands more in line with the current members' stand. (It was initially set for the eastern stand too).

At first, I hated the fact it was nixed, now I'm glad. I think they should keep the bolder architecture for the rest of the riverfront and keep AO more timeless and sympathetic to its history.

I always thought the arches at the back of the Bradman Stand were heritage listed. Obviously not...

Thanks for the photos Demo. I loved your work with the Harris Scarfe demoliton. Keep it up!!

The arches were built with the rest of the stand to try & match the arches of the Western Stands, so they were only there for 20 years.

This demolition doesn't appear to be the most elegant of things

I'll probably head down there sometime and take some more pics of the demolition & the 'jaws of death' (the big Komatsu machine).

which arches are you talking about?

the ones behind the western stand are the original arches - had to be kept as part of the heritage issues they had early on.

Wow! Those photos (Thanks, Demo) resemble a war zone.
Love how all the photographers and posters on this forum document (written and pictorial) our changing city.
I am so looking forward to completion of this redevelopment and the Riverside Precinct.
