Yeah, I too was appalled by the efforts gone into choosing these finalists. 'Tacky' would be an understatement.

Only in Adelaide. We can't even get a design competition right. FAIL.

Delayed April Fools prank?

That is by far the worst thing I have seen this year. This site holds massive potential and deserves 1000x better than what has been submitted.

The final three will be announced in December and share in $900,000 prize money on a first, second and third basis not broken down by Govt — but there is no guarantee the State Government will use any of the designs for the site

$900,000 prizemoney?!. Now this is a pure waste of tax payers money!

I'm clinging to the possibility that the renders shown in the advertiser article were chosen to deliberately make them look awful.

I mean, surely the panel selecting the finalists couldn't have stuffed it up that bad?!?!

I couldnt access the odasa site from my phone there surely has to be more renders showin something far more interesting?

It appears every final year architect has had a crack at it.

The first proposal look likes like a barnyard attached to Yatala Prison. Yuck

I just had a look at the website and the other finalists are much nicer.

My initial reaction - stunned!
I was hoping for some truly innovative designs for this unique location. None of these stood out for me as I skimmed the entries, hoping to find one that I could possibly vote as a standout.

I would like to see more detail but I fear that my initial disappointment won't go away.

Can someone please post some renders from the other submissions? I'm not having any luck getting onto the website on a phone/iPad.

Underwhelming
Disappointing
Un-inovative
Wasted Opportunity

Just a few things that spring to mind.

Hold on - these are just renders, what are they planning to DO with the site?? That is the most important thing. Until we have more detail I wouldn't base my opinions on that article.

Well, I'll be damned. What a useless exercise. Initially I thought the calibre of the entries overall must have been pretty abominable if these were what were selected for the shortlist, but ODASA has previews of all submissions on its website and of the ones I've had time to look through at least some are far superior. I mean the shortlisted submission from Slovakia involves building a FREAKING MOUNTAIN on the site. Sure, that's thinking outside the box, but it's also mind-bogglingly stupid and the jury should've known better.

I'm going to reserve any further criticism until ODASA releases the full submissions, because perhaps there's something that we're missing. Given it's an ideas competition for potential site uses, I could only notice on the Oculus (NSW) submission any indications. Have a look: http://odasa.sa.gov.au/rahsite

Also underwhelmed. Where are the truly visionary proposals, where are the big name architects, where are the holistic approaches that really consider it's position in Adelaide and not just the site itself?

The only thing I found interesting in the shortlisted proposals was the mountain. Totally impractical yes, but it's the only thing that showed some interesting thinking. There's a couple of non-shortlisted entries that show a bit more promise, but still nothing properly amazing. And why are none of the non-shortlisted entries credited?

Surely some of the money could have been better spent on website development - this site is more than just crappy! Still trying to view the finalists....but not expecting to be inspired from what I saw in the 'tiser
