Actually, according to Emporis definitions, any building above 12 levels is considered high-rise. This applies anywhere in the world.

But, yes I understand what you meant.

For that area, this would be considered a high rise.

All I'm going to say is think about how you'd feel if someone were to build an apartment building with floor to ceiling windows and balconies right next to your property.

I'm not entirely opposed to high-rise developments in Glenelg (though, I do feel that they've destroyed the area in parts for example the shadow that the Oaks Hotel places over the Brian Nadilo reserve, it makes the area feel and look cold) but they should be building further south down the coast, not north (development should stop at ANZAC Highway).

Usually I don't agree with you Rev, but you hit the nail on the head this time.

Yep, totally agree with the sentiments regarding NIMBY's and whingers in this city. Even funnier still are the ones who live
in the CBD, yes, Central Business District who oppose even mid rise developments near their 2 or 3 storey townhouses. If
you don't want to live next to a highrise, then why on earth would you choose to live in the city centre. They seem to think
that it's here for their enjoyment only.

Take a leaf from other major cities in Australia, they no doubt have a vocal minority too. But the attitude is build first, if it's
in the greater good to do so, and then let them complain as much as they like afterwards. Eventually it just becomes the norm
and people just take progress as being a given when living in a large city.

Rant over.

Architects behind this project are Hassell.

I don't mind it, but not 100% sold on the design.

1) It looks a bit dicky.

2) There's a spelling mistake on the website. Honestly, if they can't spell 'storey' then they're probably not going to
have much success in terms of sales and buildng a 12 level building.

I've found that Adelaide developers / sales agents have a poor understanding of the value of good marketing, and are incredibly cheap when it comes to branding and development of sales material. Penny wise, pound foolish and all that. In this case, it's an off-the-shelf theme, mildly edited by the cheapest freelancer they could find, with some copy likely written by the agent them self in a hurry at the end of the day.

The Guardian Messenger is reporting that Planning Minister John Rau will approve this proposal tomorrow.

It is reported that there were 16 submissions against the project, including 1 from council. The council's submission outrageously opposes the project because they feel this project will adversely impact already established motel and hotels in the area!

The project is reported to commence construction next month, and open to the public in August 2018.

Approved.
A 12-STOREY apartment complex and five-star hotel in Glenelg North has been given the nod.

Planning Minister John Rau today approved the $110 million redevelopment of the two-storey Comfort Inn on Adelphi Tce.

The complex overlooking the Patawalonga is set to become the largest development in the Glenelg area since Holdfast Shores in 2006.

The proposal includes 146 hotel rooms, a conference centre, 60 apartments, a cafe and shops.

The project is expected to create 1050 jobs: 518 in construction and potentially another 532 indirect jobs.

Have come across the plans for this development. The building will actually be 14 levels (including plant), and rise to a total height of 47.4m, thus making it one of the tallest buildings in Glenelg.

A couple of new renders. They are targeting high end retail for the ground floor. Not a lot of foot traffic so not sure how successful that would be.
