Perhaps, but i think they are betting on the fact that someone will build something on that just kidding sit sooner or later. No point in making it all glass when its just gonna be covered up. And given the proximity of the baby site to city central, i think its only a matter of time till something is proposed on that site.

Nice find Mants. I like the new render (the podium reminds me somewhat of the Gallery), though I suspect it won't turn out quite as depicted.

That photo also highlights how under-developed the area around it is. It'd be a good addition to a rather dull area.

Lol, silly me. I thought that cream coloured thing with the black box in the background was a part of this building, but its not - its the Telstra Exchange.
The updated render is really nice, at least it has different aspects to it - and yes the podium looks very much like the Gallery. A design trend in the works? Multi-coloured glass has been around since the Commonwealth Law Courts. Its nothing new to me, but anything funky will be a great deliverance to the city.

That is actually the initial render. The current design is much more simple.

And yes, the title of the thread should be changed to approved.

i stand corrected.
however this one shows the full elevation of the building.

anyway, it's not important.

I think its nevertheless important that people see the image you posted. It is time to say 'enough is enough' with the Adelaide practice of dumbing down buildings.

The dumbing down of Adelaide's buildings is a combination of 2 factors, the lack of confidence in the Adelaide property market and a low base standard of building stock.

The continuing lack of confidence in Adelaide's property market is mainly due to eastern states bias. Market evaluations are generally done in the eastern states where there is generally a disdain of Adelaide. During the recent housing boom Adelaide was always tipped to perform below the eastern capitals yet Adelaide's market had the strongest % gains and still did not over extend. Adelaide's prices have not gone backwards in any quarter since the boom. Melbourne's & Sydney's both have. Financiers therefore set lower building budgets making it difficult to achieve the initial concepts.

When a company moves to a new building they want a building that is better than their competitors. Because all the buildings get dumbed down there is little competitive pressure on developers to provide a better looking building.

If the market cannot produce decent looking buildings, then it is time to legislate!
