I agree and the design is unique. More of what we have at Bowden, West or Findon would be cheap and boring.

I'm glad the site had gone to a bigger developer. I'm excited to see what plans they come up with for this prime site!

Anyone able to post this article?
More than 60 homes would be built on a former market garden at Findon under plans before Charles Sturt Council.

The application for 54 two-storey terrace houses – and an extra 16 vacant blocks – on the 2.4ha block on Bridgman Rd has been lodged by Rivergum Homes.

A 2000sq m site for medium density housing has also been set aside for future development.

Sales at the $5 million development, known as Findon Fields, began in October.

All bar one of the vacant blocks is under contract.

A number of reserves would be built in the development, including a large park in the middle of the off-the-plan homes and another with a stormwater detention basin.

The property, part of which was sold off in 2013 for housing, was once a potato farm.

The rest of the site has sat vacant for the past six years.

Taplin Real Estate salesman Heath Lapthorne said sales of the development had been going “really well”.

“Now we’re waiting for all the civil works to be done and the infrastructure put in,” Mr Lapthorne said.

“It’s coming along nicely so we’re hoping all that will be finished early in the new year.

“Our terraced homes are generating a lot of interest with quite a few first homeowners as well as downsizers, so it’s been a very good start to the launch.”

Groundworks were expected to be completed by April and if approved housing construction would begin soon after.

The homes were planned to be finished by the end of 2020.

The draft Mixed Use Development Plan Amendment for the former Biancos site next to Kilkenny Railway Station has now been approved for consultation by the Minister:

https://www.charlessturt.sa.gov.au/__da ... EKxRR-_CA8

The DPA proposes the following changes:

▪ Rezone the affected area from the Urban Employment Zone (and two Residential Character Zone properties) to the Suburban Activity Node Zone
▪ Provide additional policy amendments within the Suburban Activity Node Zone which addresses:
- Identification of Core and Transition area locations specific to Kilkenny
- Confirmation of desired maximum building heights of 5 storeys within the core area and 3 storeys within the transition areas
- Limiting building heights to 2 storeys within 9.5 metres of the Mundulla Street frontage (to respond to historic character interface)
- Limiting non-residential development from Mundulla Street frontage
- Identifying and differentiating maximum retail floor areas for the transition area from those applying to Seaton (already contained within the Suburban Activity Node Zone)
- Identification of desired activated frontages along David Terrace and Wilpena Terrace
- Identification of the O-I Glass plant, rail line and David Terrace as key noise sources from which residential development needs to mitigate impacts
- Identification of the presence of the Historic Conservation Area and local heritage place within the zone and the need for development to respond to these
- Provision of a public plaza adjacent the rail station
- Provision of pedestrian connections to Arkaba Road and MJ McInerney Reserve
- Ensuring development makes space for the Outer Harbor Greenway along the rail corridor.
▪ Application of the Noise and Air Emissions Overlay to the affected area
▪ Application of the Affordable Housing Overlay to the affected area
▪ Mapping amendments to reflect the zoning and Overlay application changes.

Unfortunately, a new massive warehouse is currently being built on Kilkenny Road between Aroona Road and Port Road. That aside, I've thinking for a decade that this precinct is super ideal for a transit-oriented development - I even suggested it as an alternative (along with the industrial land at Seaton Park railway station) as viable alternatives to the controversial land swap at St Clair Reserve in Woodville.
Our state, our city, our future.

Yeah the site really is a wasted opportunity - literally bang on top of a station and yet has been derelict for decades. It's a shame about the OI warehouse (and the neighbouring factory - which I suspect will be around for a good while yet) but really glad it looks like something will finally happen with this site.

I heard a rumour a little while back that Defence were interested in building housing here - I wonder if that's still on the cards?
