Good call Brando......a cheap copy of Ibis.

It's gonna be a very crowded hotel market soon....maybe this building could be an Ibis Budget......that's one sort of "chain hotel" that Adelaide doesn't have.

Yet more mediocrity from Brown Falconer architects. They must price at rock bottom as I feel nearly every (underwhelming) recent design is from them.

As far as this one goes, it's probably the first time where something's changed in the design review panel that I don't agree with. The original roofline was far more interesting. Meanwhile, the podium has been unremarkable in every iteration, though at least the tower is set back 3 metres and design review achieved an activated ground level. Also, given this proposal is nearly 34 metres over-height, I really don't think the developers have demonstrated any sort of excellence that justifies a height exemption. We should be encouraging them to deliver better design for greater heights.

Can't think what hotel operator would snap this up (over all the other currently unattached proposals) unless even more serviced apartments are on the cards.

Atleast the original had decent north/south facades. This is trash.

It's this kind of bullshit commentary that really gets me, how is this good enough when you consider be seen from most pockets of the southern end of the CBD?

Considering the narrow plot on where to build I consider this a good design for a hotel. The plans have changed from apartments to a hotel. Hotels don't need balconies and fancy roof lines. Of course I would have preferred if the adjacent properties were part of the development. Then we would've seen a good sized tower. Take what you can get I suppose.

Cheers

Hmmm doesn't look too flash
I reckon I could design a better building but obviously budget hotel equals budget design
Near bus station and hostels
Good opportunity to rejuvenate the area lost

Compare it to most of the buildings in its locality. Is it better than Vision, yes, better than central Adelaide appartments, probably. It’s a small block, and if the materials are decent it will be more than fine imo.

I don’t hate it for the location. Also west and east sides will be developed eventually and it’s not a complete concrete wall.

I'm tired of everything they do being white, grey or black. It's so boring! Imagine if they panelling was painted the yellow depicted in the diagrams above
