Sadly it’s looking pretty true to the render. Was hoping for a big variation for the better but alas.

Nothing says luxury like staying in a plywood box! No doubt those behind this project will pick up some awards for 'successfully ruined the aesthetic of a great city stadium'.
It wasn't a great city stadium in the first place.

Cheers

I don't really want to have this debate again, but take a thorough look at the Gabba, MCG and SCG and get back to me about your theory.

Can we please stop arguing over whether the design of the Oval is good or bad? Taste in any kind of architecture is subjective, some people like it, some people don't. Can the people on this thread just agree to disagree?

Question time.

Who's going to want to stay in one of these pigeon holes when you could stay in a hotel in the city and have much better
facilities such as a swimming pool, lobby, bars, etc ?

Gosh I must be feeling a little off colour but I think I actually agree with GHS!

Patrick_27, is there a reason why you left out Perth (Optus) Stadium?

Spotto, yes architecture can be subjective, especially the exterior design and look of a building. However, when it comes to the functionality there is little to be subjective about. It either works or it doesn't.

As for the hotel hopefully it will serve its purpose. Personally I don't like either.

Pigeon holes are those capsule hotels you see in Japan. ghs, I wouldn't worry there will be people staying here. Not all will want a swimming pool. A bar yes since that earns money.

There will be two types of people who stay here mainly I expect.

1. People going to the oval for games/events who want to be able to come and go easily. During any ashes games for example I expect the hotel will be at capacity.

2. People who are drawn in by the dot point of staying at a hotel that is literally in the parklands.

They are some very high expectations.

I am interested in knowing how much they're going to charge per night in one of these shoe boxes.

From what I've seen it should be about $25 per night.

Exactly, it reminds of my grandparents who couldn't see anyone living in apartments ever.

It's within walking distance of the convention center and the CBD, so business travel is one group.
The oval is an event venue and that's not just games/music, but meetings, conferences, etc are held there as well, so another market.
Tourism / sightseeing leverages the Oval name reputation, instantly making it much more memorable or desirable than any other hotel in the city. For example, imagine a package with the Indian Pacific or Ghan, staying at the Oval becomes another tourism item that no other city hotel can even come close to. Also, if I remember some comments by the CEO SMA correctly, he said that they already have massive interest from India.....

oh, and it's a full fledged hotel, that will have essentially the same amenities (and room sizes....) as any comparable place from lobby to bars to service, etc (the Oval itself already had pretty much all of that in place, no need to create it all from scratch). Ok, no swimming pool, but neither has the Casino hotel, and I'm sure they can come up with a Nextgen arrangement as well if they see demand for that...

This hotel is a cheap tack-on to probably the most iconic stadium in the country. Plenty of high quality hotels just a short 5 minute stroll across the bridge (not coming from the parklands preservation brigade either).

Flopo, the new casino hotel will def. have a pool. From their website, “Adelaide's most luxurious hotel, a wellness centre including day spa, pool and gym as well as additional signature restaurants and bars.”
