Coulson Aviation, the company whose aircraft from the USA crashed in NSW during the summer and the pilots died, has converted a CH47 Chinook (military transport helicopter) into a firefighting chopper with an 11,000 litre capacity in the back. Another example of what should be bought by Australian governments.

If not entire helicopters, they should buy the tank and conversion kits ready to go for the Australian Army's fleet of Chinooks.

Where are the Army's Chinooks based? Does it have the spare capacity to add firefighting to its role, including the different training that would be required, and increased maintenance?

Townsville, where we have 10 brand new builds of the latest variant. The old models were retired in 2016, with 2 sent to museums, 3 rendered unairworthy and used for ground based training, and the rest scrapped for parts.

Australia & NX have won the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.

Opening game will be in Auckland, final will be in Sydney.
At least 10 venues will be used, 5 stadiums from each country.

Here's a list of proposed stadiums.

Stadium Australia Sydney 70,000*
Eden Park Auckland 48,276
Hindmarsh stadium Adelaide18,435
Lang Park Brisbane 52,263
Christchurch stadium Christchurch 22,556
Dunedin stadium Dunedin 28,744
Waikato stadium Hamilton 25,111
York Park Launceston 22,065
AAMI Park Melbourne 30,052
Newcastle stadium Newcastle 25,945
Perth Oval Perth 22,225
Sydney Football Stadium Sydney 42,512
Wellington Regional Stadium Wellington 39,000

We might have a chance for some of the smaller insignificant teams/games, but they'd want to maximise ticket sales so we will probably miss out.

Besides Stadium Australia and Eden Park and the other 4 Kiwi venues you'd think Lang Park and AAMI would be the other certaonties. Perhaps Sydney Football Stadium if FIFA allows more then 1 venue per city.

Do you think they should consider Adelaide Oval?
What if the demand is significantly above what Hindmarsh can fit? Or to be considered/chosen to host bigger games/teams.

From someone who has gone to numerous soccer games at both Adelaide Oval and Hindmarsh, any supporter will tell you Hindmarsh is the far better ground to watch it at. Personally, I think they should get temporary stands (if possible to again) and play the games at Hindmarsh.

I think our best option is Hindmarsh with temporary stands to fill the corners in.
I dont think Adelaide Oval meets FIFA requirements.
Probably too late to start building a new rectangular stadium in the city, knowing there'd be construction delays.
If it was the mens World Cup I reckon we would be getting a nrw stadium but I dont think this government is taking women's sports that seriously.
If we get games we likely won't get any big blockbuster games anyway.

The announcement sounded like some (possibly temporary) capacity increase was intended.

Lead time for the men’s World Cup is longer - 2026 host nations were announced in 2018. That gives the hosts more time to build new infrastructure.

Holy sheeeet, just heard a Qantas flight headed to Brisbane. Been a while, have gotten accustomed to the skies being pretty quiet these last few months.

Also, just read that an airport in Taiwan has been offering "flights to nowhere".
You can register your interest and if selected you get to go through all the normal processes of taking a flight. Basically a joy flight from what I can gather.
Interesting way of dealing with the pandemic shut downs.

Qantas and Air New Zealand have done flights like that as sight-seeing flights over Antarctica.

I wonder what the cost would be for non-stop ADL-ADL jet flights sightseeing South Australia. Highlights could include:
  • McLaren Vale, Barossa and Clare wine regions
  • Snowtown, Hallett, Hornsdale, Lincoln Gap wind farms
  • Yorke Peninsula
  • Wilpena Pound and the Flinders Ranges
  • Lake Eyre (and Torrens/Frome)
  • Some large mines - Prominent Hill, Middleback Ranges
  • Murray River and lakes
  • Fleurieu Peninsula
  • Kangaroo Island
Social distancing is maintained by only using the window seats (and perhaps a discount fare for the middle seat occupied by someone from the same household). Loops or zigzags would be required at some sites to ensure that windows on both sides get a good view.

Now would be a good time to try it out on South Australians. if it's popular, it could continue as a regular tourist drawcard to "experience" more of the state than short-visit international or interstate tourists usually have time to see. Part of the experience is "it's big" - that loop only passed over the eastern half of the state, and about half of its north-south length.

Quick question, does anyone have any search tips on what to do if they want to locate the posts in a given development thread that have the links to proposals?

So often I want to compare the excellent photos people are posting with the original renders etc but often it can be many tens of pages of clicking before stumbling upon them!

I wonder what the cost of bridging the Spencer Gulf between Point Lowly and Port Germein would be..

Very few people have heard of it and you'd think that would be more popular now. There's one company chartering a plane to do this, but not for a few months:

I think Qantas did one from Adelaide last year (maybe the year before).

I was only a kid when an Air New Zealand flight didn't make it back - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Erebus_disaster
