I wonder where they are planning to put it, opposite the brickworks? Hope that the pedestrian crossing facilities there are going to be well thought out.

It's this parcel here, or at least some of it. Not amazing accessible in the short term given that it's tucked away in a back street next to the waste dump but when the Thebarton Campus and brewery sites are eventually redeveloped it will make a bit more sense and should have a sizable residential population very close to it.

Noticed the one at the beginning of Southern Expressway (Tonsley) has recently been fixed in the last few weeks after being damaged for the better part of a year.

The one at the Port River Expressway off ramp from the Superway has been fixed too.

Hopefully the others get fixed soon too.

PM announced funding today along with Premier to complete the NS Corridor (ie stage 2 (northern part) of the Torrens to Darlington section) - $2.26bn.

Not sure how many of the included pictures are new ones though.

Western suburbs to be given $125m sugar hit for roadwork drama

The state government will unveil a $125m sweetener for the inner western suburbs, a community hub to be built as part of the Torrens to Darlington road project.

New sports facilities, a community nursery and revamping vacant commercial spaces will be unveiled as part of a $125m state government program to offset the effects of the Torrens to Darlington project.

The Sunday Mail can reveal the government will also work with residents to create a new Thebarton community hub on the bank of the River Torrens in a bid to revitalise the suburb.

Transport Minister Corey Wingard said the T2D city shaping program on the eastern side of South Rd off West Thebarton Rd would compensate for disruptive roadworks and losing parts of Kings Reserve to accommodate the Torrens to Darlington project.

“This land next to the River Torrens is perfect for a community gathering point and we’re going to explore how best to use it to deliver maximum benefits for people in and around Thebarton,” Mr Wingard said.

“It could hold fringe events, pop up concerts or outdoor cinemas during summer – the sky is the limit.

“The Torrens to Darlington Project isn’t just about building a free-flowing motorway, it’s also about building vibrant communities.”

A community nursery will be established to grow and supply native plants for the road project and revamping vacant commercial spaces into “thriving precincts”.

Mr Wingard said the state government was also looking to invest in sporting infrastructure projects at locations including Glandore Oval and the nearby park and playground.

The Transport Department will develop the area by taking ownership of the former TechInSA precinct from Renewal SA, at 2 Anne St, which is currently mainly vacant land.

“We understand the T2D Project will be disruptive to people as it’s being delivered and we’re doing our utmost to minimise those impacts and also create better-connected, greener communities through our dedicated city shaping program,” Mr Wingard said.

The Torrens to Darlington project is a 10.5km section of the $9.9bn North-South Corridor and will be delivered in two stages including 7km of tunnels.

Stage one, from Anzac Highway to Darlington, is expected to start in late 2023 and stage two, from the River Torrens to Anzac Highway, is scheduled to begin in 2026 subject to planning, approvals and funding. The entire project is expected to be complete in 2030.

The Kings Reserve land will be needed for complex tunnelling and motorway works but a large portion only temporarily during construction.

Seems like a bit of a strange place to do this.. West Thebarton Road is basically a busy thoroughfare. I would have thought the old Kiln/brickworks markets site & the surrounding land alongside Linear Park/River Torrens would have been a better location. I also think they should tunnel under the Torrens and get rid of that messy overhead bridge/expressway.

The reason the Brickworks site was not chosen is due to the cost of acquiring large commercial properties. If you look at the existing and proposed alignment of the road, it misses several key commercial properties such as Makin Mattressesand major infrastructure sites such as transformer sites. RResidential and community sites are far easier to acquire and cost less.

In regards to why they didn't tunnel under the Torrens, it would make the connection from Grange Road impossible due to the depth they will need to go to to go under the Torrens. That's why you will see the motorway at grade at most creek crossings because it increases the costs and complexity.

The community centre site will be near the Bonython Park tram stop, so it's easy to get to from the city. It will also be convenient for the Fringe because it's the same tram that goes to the Botanic Gardens.

I think the difference there is that American cities are already cris-crossed by highways that were overbuilt in a mid century construction boom, “everywhere needs an interstate”. The ones that are being removed or relocated are not the critical routes and can be sacrificed, the example in the video encircles the CBD for some unknown reason.

Meanwhile in Adelaide, we have no city highways and we’re in the process of constructing one along an existing congested arterial route.

For sure, one of the examples in the video only saw a few thousand vehicles a day so was definitely overbuilt.

It's also the case that in other sections that have been completed up to now we seem to be repeating the mistakes of the past when it comes to pedestrian connections, division of communities, and improvement of the surroundings (look at the shithouse job that has been done in landscaping many of the completed sections of the corridor).

Wouldn’t have thought to use Adam Road like that, not bad.

If they can fix the Majors/Black Rd intersection at Main South Rd that would be a great and useful addition to this project.

seems like a far more cost effective way of doing it. a fully fledged on off system at the majors road bridge would most likely require the bridge to be duplicated.
