Does that just sit on concrete blocks on the ground surface, not dug and concreted into a big hole with a solid block of concrete?
[COM] Re: Adelaide Botanic High School | Frome Road
yes it does just sit on the ground but it stacked up with 120 tonnes of stabiliser weights .see Llessur 2002 next picture on the crane news picture. On each of the 4 sides of the base there 3x10 tonne weights .

Here's today's pic to save you finding the other one.
Yes, the crane base is just sitting on those concrete pads. The ground under the pads was excavated slightly and then backfilled with gravel fill material which was then compacted. The concrete pads were presumably just laid on top of this, but that bit happened when I was out of the office so I can't be sure.
I used to work in construction but have never actually seen a crane assembled close up before so it's been interesting to watch. I was also surprised that there's not more in the way of anchoring required!

Thanks for the progress shots mate. Going to be a frantic build for this to be complete by 2024 school year!

Cheers Howie - it's certainly a very busy site. At least it gives us something to watch on quiet days in the office.

Looking at Llessur's picture above,i think they used a crane base sitting on the surface instead of digging a big hole to avoid disturbing the nearby gum trees. in the picture the base is at a strange angle to fit around the trees?

Apparently something was wrong with the crane base - they've removed it all and are now surveying the area. Perhaps it wasn't level?

Formwork is going in for new crane base pads. Must have been a levelling issue. For anyone who was interested in the crane foundations, the pads are around 600-800mm thick and just poured directly onto the compacted fill.

Llessur 2002 They seemed to have moved the crane base slightly to the left based on your last picture

Crane has been up for a week or so now. Couldn’t see that this has been mentioned anywhere yet.

That really is a great vantage point, Llessur. It’s a tricky site at ground level to get a decent pic. And yep, the crane was mentioned in the crane counter thread, but back 3 or 4 pages so I had missed it

Yes, we've got a pretty good view from up here! Just need to arrange for our filthy windows to be cleaned...Uncle Monty wrote: ↑Wed May 10, 2023 2:07 pmThat really is a great vantage point, Llessur. Very busy on site today. The structure is beginning to rise above ground level:
