It’s a shame that the northern end of the concourse is closed off to the platforms.

What’s inside that closed space next to the InfoCentre, between the concourse and Platforms 4-9?
a hotel basement?

Nothing to do with the hotel. This space existed long before.

On the concourse side, it’s between the cafe stall and the soldier memorial plaques.

There are definitely a couple of offices for DIT staff and the cleaners use the small door next to Platform 9 so I presume it's largely station/rail admin.

There is a staff entrance for the Intercontinental next to the old phone booths on the other side. I'm not sure if the hotel actually has any station-level space here, or whether it's just the exit door to a staircase.

I'd really love to see at least some of this opened up again, it would completely change the feel of the platform area.

Those offices and cleaning rooms cause a bit of a bottle neck when getting off a train on Platforms 8 and 9 especially when multiple trains pull in at once. I still feel that the railway station needs way more love and attention to attempt to restore it closer to what it would have been like originally. The removal of the over bridge to the casino was a good start but the momentum needs to continue. And what is happening with those empty store fronts that face the concourse???

I remember going to that station in the 70's. It was much more interesting with the trains coming in from all over the state, plus the Overland.

Didn't the walkway between the platforms used to run north-south instead of northwest-southeast? Didn't they change it to diagonal in the 80s when they got rid of platforms 1-4, renumbered platforms 5-13 as platforms 1-9 and put the eastern most part of the platforms underneath a building with diesel exhaust extraction fans (the outlets of which used to be visible as giant pink pipes)?

It might be that if you went back to long before what is now platform 9 used to extend much further east. nearly all the way back to the station building.

It looks like the hotel is a bit further north but that space didn't exist as it is until the platforms were reconfigured.

The active crossing at North Adelaide Station is apparently finally operational today. Only took 5 1/2 years and one death.

Both North Adelaide and War Memorial Drive were being worked in the last fortnight. These were the last crossings not activated.
Islington was operational two weeks ago.

The 5 1/2 years date from the (partial) installation during electrification early works done during the Torrens Jn project. However the crossing control cabinet was not installed until DIT resignation during electrification. Curiously this cabinet was recently removed and replaced this month!

New gated pedestrian crossings were installed and commissioned between Salisbury and Gawler Central during the electrification closure. The new gated crossings S of Salisbury cross ARTC track and have only been completed this year. There are some new ARTC signals between Torrens Jn and Islington still to be commissioned.

Update: The War Memorial Drive (Torrens Jn) pedestrian crossing is open and activated.

Woodlands Park railway station to be renovated
Woodlands Park Railway Station temporary closure until April 2024
04 Jan 2024
The Woodlands Park Railway Station will be temporarily closed from Monday 22 January to late April 2024 to undertake refurbishment and renewal works.

The $4.5 million works include demolishing the northern platform building (old ticket office), as well as the installation of new seating, signage, weather screens, LED lighting and CCTV.

During the Woodlands Park Railway Station closure:

The station underpass will be closed. Pedestrians and cyclists can use the crossing at the northern end of the station and are asked to take care when travelling through the area.
Street parking on Adelaide Terrace and Railway Terrace will be reduced, and traffic management will be in place. This includes speed restrictions and lane closures during construction. Please take care when travelling through the area and observe signage and traffic controllers.
While the Woodlands Park Station is closed, Edwardstown Railway Station will become the new temporary transfer point for passengers, with express train services running between Adelaide Railway Station and Edwardstown Railway Station. A bus shuttle service will also operate between Woodlands Park and Edwardstown Railway stations to transport passengers to and from the stations.

Information on bus shuttle timetables will be available soon.

And Seaford/Flinders line to close over Australia Day long weekend for maintenance and new escalators coming to Noarlunga Centre.
Temporary Seaford and Flinders rail line closures on January long weekend
04 Jan 2024
Both the Seaford and Flinders rail line will be temporarily closed during the Australia Day long weekend in January to allow rerailing, tamping, timber sleeper replacement and signalling works. During the closure, the Noarlunga Railway Station escalators will also be removed, in preparation for the installation of the new escalators in March, which will require a further partial line closure.

While these works are undertaken, substitute buses will operate between Adelaide Railway Station and both Seaford and Flinders Railway Stations.

When:

9:00 pm Thursday 25 to last service Sunday 28 January 2024.
Affecting:

SEAFRD – Seaford to City
FLNDRS – Flinders to City
Accommodating all our passengers:

Every effort is made so that all timetabled bus substitute services are accessible for all customers, including the elderly, customers with a disability and those travelling with prams.

If customers find their large mobility device does not fit on an Adelaide Metro bus, it is recommended they contact the Busways depot on (08) 7260 0100 to request an accessible taxi. This service is available from train station to train station only and not a door-to-door service.

Much needed for Woodlands Park. Jayne Stinson advocated for an upgrade.

Although, I'd prefer total demolition with Edwardstown moved into a trench beneath Raglan Avenue to better serve Castle Plaza, especially as the changeover station for Seaford to Flinders services.

Could not agree more. Yet more “upgrading” of existing stations that aren’t quite located where most needed. A perfect opportunity to amalgamate a couple of stations, therefore speeding things up, and the possibility of creating a proper higher density hub around a new station, instead of upgrading a station stuck in the backstreets of suburbia.
