Treasury Tunnel Tour!

#1 Post by sam » Wed Jan 30, 2008 1:41 pm

I am looking to organise a treasury tunnel tour:
"Take a guided tour through the original underground tunnels of the old Adelaide Treasury Building. See where gold was transported, the Cabinet Room and more. This is one of the oldest and most historically significant buildings in South Australia and has an important association with the colony's administrative history and economic development. It's managed by the National Trust of South Australia. The Adelaide Treasury Building itself has now been restored and redeveloped as Medina Grand hotel. The original building, designed by George Strickland Kingston was constructed in 1839, just three years after the settlement of colony. The Medina Grand is easily accessed, situated on the corner of King William and Flinders Streets."
Unfortunately not available on weekends. Will be on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, late morning around 11/12ish and lasts for an hour. It does cost a meagre $5 per person, with a minimum of 10 people in a group. The tour is run by the National Trust.

At this stage I want to gather interest and see how many people are likely to attend. My schedule is starting to get a little tight to even make it myself, would have been a great thing to do over the holiday period, but I didn't know about it then!

Seems pretty interesting to see something that we don't normally see on the surface.

Yeah, shame about the weekday thing, I can only make it because I work so close.

Tomorrow morning I'm going to see if this Tuesday 5th is good/gives enough notice for it, otherwise it'll be a few weeks before myself and two workmates will be able to make it as business is picking up again...

You mean there is a tunnel underground below the building?

I never knew that.

I'll see if I can come and have a look as well. I don't have TAFE on at all on that day.

Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

The booking has been confirmed.

Wednesday 20th February, starting at 11am.

If you could please post below whether you will be able to attend, and whether you want to bring anyone.
Hopefully should be space for a few extra friends in this tour, however I will confirm extra guests perhaps in a week after gauging S-A numbers.

I will contact people individually with the meeting location, as this is an RSVP only event.

Cheers,
Sam.
