The building will be built next to the heritage listed Electra House. This means that the airspace above Electra House will never be used. The developers behind City Central have therefore decided to have 'projections' of the building jutting out from the facade above Electra House. These pods are room size, and they are expected to become board rooms, and cafeterias.
ahh thanks for that will

you guys sure know your stuff :)

From the Tiser's website. Sounds like there'll be a render in the hard copy. If there is, I'll scan it in later:

Tower for old 'Tiser site
By LOUISE TRECCASI

THE former home of Advertiser Newspapers will be demolished and replaced by a high-rise office tower.

The Tower 2 project at 121-129 King William St will be part of the $600 million City Central redevelopment transforming a city block.

Adelaide City Council has approved the Caversham Property Developments project on the site vacated by the newspaper in October. Tower 2 will be adjacent to the 21-storey Tower 1 project in Waymouth St, to be completed this year.

The latest artist impressions have been released for Tower 2, which will provide 13,000sq m of office space over 12 levels, with ground floor retailing.

The new building will be designed and built to achieve a five-star green rating from the Green Building Council of Australia and a five-star Australian Building Greenhouse Rating for energy efficiency.

More than 90 per cent of the demolished building will be recycled. Asbestos removal is under way at the site and demolition is expected to be complete by September.

Caversham investment, sales and leasing manager Ben Yates said potentially hazardous material would be completely sealed and contained within the Tower 2 site.

He said the second tower would provide advanced technologies and be a leader in sustainable development.

"The sheer scale of the City Central development will change the face of the Adelaide CBD forever," he said.

The City Central project also proposes to transform the landmark GPO building into an international-standard hotel and shopping complex. The hotel tower would be built behind the existing heritage-listed GPO building.

Yup, looking nice now, soon pedestrians will have to walk right around in the temporary underpass/walkway thingo. HEAPS AND HEAPS of activity there today, few bits of building pulled off and stripped, many windows gone and pretty much all external A/C systems have been ripped out.

Just curious, how soon can we expect a tower crane for this baby?

Well it was a real hive of activity in the city today on most of the construction sites. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera. Santos was all go, as was the demolition of the trambarn site, a lot of it has now gone including the old building on the western side by the looks. The area on King William Street and Waymouth around the City Central block is now really dominated by all the restrictions and barriers, there were heaps of workers on site today. Blue scaffolding was going up all around the old Advertiser building. The CC2 demolishment really dominates King William Street now, everyone was looking up at what was going on. Plus the Westpac recladding is done but the footpath shelters were being welded together plus the action at no 1 King William. Not sure about the glass on that one. It appears to be white coated! Might end up looking nice though I hope. A drive through Adelaide now has turned from a dead experience to a hive of construction activity. Gives the city areal buzz to it :D

There must be somewhere we can find a render, especially with demo work having started.

Crane base is on site now. Blue base. I wonder if its one of Nicks cranes. If so, it'd be a Favelle Favco 1500D. Which is wierd cos BH is doing the construction of this tower, unless some other mob is doing the demolition?

Meh, another crane on the skyline for adelaide! 3 on the one block! Soon there should be 2 for SA Water and possibly another 2 or 3 on the bus station site as Multiplex are now going to build tower 1 alongside Hansen Yunken, I've heard

Thanks for the update Pikey. Where is the base located? On Waymouth Street as well? Sure looks as though there could be a fair few cranes around Adelaide soon.

Saw it today on a drive past. It appears to be on the King William Street frontage. Hopefully that was the base I saw and it will be there. Will be great to have a tower crane on King William Street in the northern CBD. Geeze when was the last time that happened? The early 80's? Anyone know? Not including temporary jobs of course.
